Mani Ratnam is directing Inji Vellam, a complete romance, with Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi in leading roles. Initially, reports stated that the movie is scheduled for Pongal release, next January. Earlier, Rajinikanth's Dharman had been locked for Pongal release as well, but Mani Ratnam did not move from competition.
The recent reports state that Inji Vellam has been pushed to 22nd January or 29th January, aiming at Republic Day weekend. It is believed that Kamal Haasan's Indian 3 might release during Pongal and hence, even Dharman - produced by Kamal Haasan, has been moved to 14th April for Tamil New Year.

On the other hand, reports suggest that while Indian 3 release date is not locked, Sivakarthikeyan's Seyon might release for Pongal as the movie is rural based actioner. Currently, the shoot of the movie is progressing at a brisk pace while there are unconfirmed reports about SK and director having creative differences.
So, RKFI - Kamal Haasan's production house - has asked Mani Ratnam to leave a two weeks gap and give them Pongal date. Even distributor Red Giant Movies have also supported this claim, say reports. AR Rahman will start scoring BGM and re-recording for IV after Ramayana Part-1 release post Diwali.
