Is Sukumar and DSP combination a history?

Oct 12, 2026 1:45PM

Sukumar and Devi Sri Prasad have been a strong director-composer bond that looked irreplacable and unbreakable. After Arya, even though Sukumar went through a lean phase, DSP never gave an unsuccessful album and vice versa, when DSP looked out-of-form before Pushpa franchise, Sukumar did not replace him.

But Sukumar's association with Mythri Movie Makers seem to have drawn a wedge between the combination. While not trying to antagonise anyone involved, the growing disastisfaction between Mythri and DSP about delays, quality of work seem to have finally taken effect.

During Pushpa 2 final composition sessions, Mythri had been under severe pressure to release the film, by 5th December all over the world. During the time, openly, both parties commented about work process. DSP had been replaced from Good Bad Ugly as well at the same time. DSP openly stated that people who talk about delays should respect working style and provide content on time.

Sam CS worked on background score of Pushpa 2, due to these open fights but DSP completed songs and climax BGM for the film. Thaman announced that he did work for first half but makers did not accept his contribution while Sam expressed concern about crediting as additional BGM while most of his work had been retained.

But many thought for RC17, Sukumar would sort out all the issues and bring Rangasthalam trio back. Ram Charan has said to have given full creative control of the film to Sukumar and he is more or less waiting for the script work to be completed at the moment.

Meanwhile, reports are emerging that Anirudh Ravichander is being considered for the film to compose music after team said to have held discussions with Shashwat Sachdev. Reasons might be speculative but it looks like Sukumar and DSP combination has come to an end after a historical journey of two decades.
