Suriya has been struggling to deliver a blockbuster success at the box office over past 13 years. He released his most popular films - Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim, directly on OTT platforms. His previous theatrical releases - Kanguva and Retro, did not become successful. He is hoping to change that with his Karuppu. 

While the movie has been looking at release date from past Diwali to till date, he finished 90% of his next movie with Mamitha Baiju in the direction of Venky Atluri. Suriya is also busy shooting with his cop drama in the direction of Jithu Madhavan, in his own production. Karuppu delay is hurting release dates of other two. 

So, Karuppu makers are under pressure to release as soon as possible. Reports suggest that they have locked in 10th April release date but as election notification and schedule is yet to be released, they are considering 1st May, as the probable date. If they lock 1st May, then, it would be his big release after Retro, exactly after one year. 

While Karuppu is said to be an action entertainer with Suriya in dual role as a village head and lawyer, RJ Balaji is directing the film with Trisha Krishnan in leading lady role. We have to wait and see, how Suriya will plan his releases as each movie will be very crucial for his market going forward.
