Oscar Nominations: Sinners makes history with 16 nods
on Jan 22, 2026

The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were officially announced today by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman, and the results have sent shockwaves through Hollywood. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, has shattered all previous records by bagging a staggering 16 nominations. This surpasses the long-standing record of 14 nods held by Titanic, All About Eve, and La La Land.
While Sinners and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another (13 nominations) dominated the major categories, James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash failed to secure a spot in the Best Picture or Directing races. Instead, the third installment of the Na'vi saga is strictly competing in technical categories like Visual Effects and Costume Design, further highlighting the franchise fatigue.
Leonardo DiCaprio once again got nominated for Best Actor with Timothée Chalamet in contention. Emma Stone has been deservingly nominated for Best Actress for Bugonia and F1 made the Best Picture category. Well, it could very well mean that Sinners might sweep upcoming Awards looking at Academy showered love on this vampire western tale. Conan O'Brien is returning to host the ceremony this year and the award night is going to be held on March 15, 2026.
