Emraan Hashmi's Haq runs into legal trouble
on Nov 4, 2025

Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautham starrer Haq is releasing on 7th November. The movie is based on Shah Bano's Supreme Court case that revolutionised maintenance laws for divorced Muslim women. Shah Bano filed petition against her husband Mohammad Ahmed Khan and won changing existing laws for Muslim Women in 1985.
Inspired by the book, Bano Bharat ki Beti, the makers are bringing this movie. Now, the film has run into legal trouble as Shah Bano's family members are objecting for the movie's release and its depiction of their private lives. They state that the movie is distorting facts and the struggles faced by Bano and family members.
Further they have asked Court to stop the movie release. The makers have stated that their movie is work of fiction based on true incidents but they never claimed it to be complete true story. They have also stated that they have displayed the disclaimer about it being a complete work of fiction.
But the family members of Shah Bano have stated that they did not agree to use their family struggles to be depicted on big screens. They have been vocal against movie receiving CBFC certification and release of it. Supan S Varma has directed the film.
