Why is Prasanth Varma struggling despite HanuMan success?
Updated : Jan 24, 2025
Prasanth Varma debuted with an off-beat thriller Awe, produced by Nani and Ravi Teja. The movie starred Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen, Regina Cassandra, Avasarala Sreenivas and others. The movie launched his career but till Zombie Reddy, he did not recieve big box office success that he hoped for.
With HanuMan, he created a huge sensation Pan-India. Even with Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram in opposition, the movie did collect a huge Rs.300 crores gross collections. After such a massive success, normally, we find any director's career taking off in all directions. But Prasanth seems to be struggling to find right pace.
He ambitiously announced his Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe, PVCU, and stated that Jai Hanuman, sequel to HanuMan, will introduce even more characters while other stories related to the same universe will be directed by him and others. He did announce Brahmarakshas, as his next ambitious project along with Jai Hanuman.
Meanwhile, he got an offer to direct Nandamuri Mokshagna's debut project as NBK liked HanuMan. The director pressed that it would be a part of PVCU and he even got an offer to direct Ranveer Singh. He took Brahmarakshas to the actor and the project fell apart after initial discussions due to creative differences.
Mokshagna's project went up to first day of shoot and grand pooja ceremony but then got postponed indefinitely. Rishab Shetty came on board for Jai Hanuman but he has to complete his Kantara Chapter 1, before he can act in Jai Hanuman. While Mythri Movie Makers are producing Jai Hanuman, it is important to note that HanuMan is produced by different producers.
The HanuMan producer did state that they did not have a great experience working with Prasanth and recently, Amritha Aiyer, leading lady of HanuMan, also took a satirical dig at the director. Looks like the young director who is known for having attitude issues seem to have once again gone off the rails.
Success is just a starting point and lasting for years can only really help us achieve our dreams. Many insiders suggest that the director feels like he has ultimate knowledge on everything and he isn't open to suggestions.
We cannot say if it is true or not, but things does point out that people are having problem with his attitude. Maybe it would be better to amend any issues early, before things go out of hand.
