SS Rajamouli TIFF discussion Highlights

S.S. Rajamouli has shown the world the strength of Telugu film. With 'Baahubali,' he introduced Telugu film to the rest of India, and with 'RRR,' he raised the bar even higher. This film, directed by Rajamouli and starring Ram Charan and NTR, grossed more than Rs.1000 crores.

The film's direction was also lauded and recommended by Hollywood audience and writers. That is why Rajamouli is recognized both at home and internationally. He was recently in Toronto for the Toronto International Film Festival. On that stage, Jakanna said some fascinating things about his films.

In Japan, "Baahubali" has received a lot of attention. I used to believe that the stories I chose would go beyond the mother tongue and into neighbouring states. But no one expected it to travel outside the country and entertain the audience there. I was very confident after seeing how well Baahubali was received.

It is widely assumed that the audience in eastern countries enjoy our films. However, 'RRR' was not developed with Western countries in mind. I had not even considered it. According to some, the audience liked it as much as Slow Poison. The number of fans of 'RRR' has grown from tens to hundreds, and then to thousands. Are all these words about me and my film coming from Hollywood authors, directors, critics, and audiences praising 'RRR'? "I was surprised," he said.

I have an unique personal style. If I change my thinking style and make films that the Hollywood audience will enjoy, it could not work out. I'm not going to change the way I tell the story. I have my own individual style. The same will continue. I'll attempt to improve it even more. Changing my style to please others would be like sailing on two boats.

It should be my story in the end, no matter how many changes, additions, and extra touches are added. The film's audience should not think, "This is not a Rajamouli story." When it comes to storytelling, many people refer to me as a guide. To be honest, I only recently began taking steps.

He continued on "The Telugu film industry generated more films based on Ramayan and Mahabharat than any other film industry in India. These epics are filled with emotional drama and action. If we can make films based on the essence of Ramayan and Mahabharat, then Telugu films do not need to be limited to only Telugu people, they can go beyond the state and the country."

That's how Bahubali happened; it broke down all the barriers, and gradually people realised that India is more than just Bollywood; there are many other film industries, particularly the Telugu film industry, which Rajamouli described as "My Field" on the stage of the Toronto International Film Festival.
