Kamal Haasan follows Ajith Kumar's path in that aspect
Updated : Nov 11, 2024
Kamal Haasan has established himself as the most versatile actor of Indian Cinema and he is a legend in all aspects. He could act in Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, Sinhala languages and dub in his own voice for direct films along with his mother tongue Tamil. He has a distinction of being able to adapt himself to local and native body language, speaking style in his performance in other languages too. Hence, he is being referred to as Ulaganayakan, Universal Hero and Andavar (God) by his fans.
Right from early days of Indian Cinema, many stars have been credited with prefix titles to their names by media and fans. Ajith Kumar is the first star hero from Tamil Cinema to break that pattern and dissolve even his fan clubs. He requested everyone to refer to him as Ajith Kumar or Ajith or AK and not use "Thala", "Ultimate Star" tags or prefixs before his name.
Now, Kamal Haasan has decided to drop his Ulaganayagan and other titles and asked to be named as Kamal Haasan, KH or Kamal hereafter. He stated that he doesn't feel artist should not transcend art itself and hence, he took this decision. While he agreed that the fans, media gave him such tags out of love and he does respect it. But he cannot be considered above art itself.
Currently, Kamal Haasan is in USA studying about AI technology in films and he wants to bring it into use in his upcoming films after understanding it fully. He is working in the direction of Mani Ratnam after 37 years for his next film, Thug Life. Well, this trend might catch on with South Indian star actors looking at Pan-India acceptance and Hindi stars not preferring to add prefixs before their names in film title cards. A welcome change for sure if it stays on.
