Mohanlal, the cinematic icon of Indian Cinema and an absolute Legend, has joined hands with his long time collaborator Sathyan Anthikad for a light-hearted emotional film, Hridayapoorvam. Malavika Mohanan in the leading lady and Sangeeth Prathap in a highly important comic relief role, the movie released for Onam festival. Also, recently, Mohanlal has been delivering huge successes and let's see if his streak continues with this film, too.

Plot:

Sandeep Balakrishnan (Mohanlal), a cloud kitchen owner, suffers due to a terminal heart condition and he gets a heart transplant. He gets a military personnel's heart, who hails from Pune. As he recovers, he meets Haritha (Malvika Mohanan), the daughter of the military, who wishes for Sandeep's presence at her engagement. Sandeep files upon her insistence with his male nurse Jerry (Sangeeth Pratap). She calls off her engagement and in the brawl, Sandeep's backbone gets slightly fractured. As he starts to see a growing affection between him, Haritha and her mother Devika (Sangita Madhavan Nair), what would he do? Will he stay with them or move back? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

Mohanlal proves his genius yet again with his incredible performance. The legend carries off this typical role in his style and his comic timing is top notch. Maintaining the character of a man suffering with a back issue on top of a recent heart transplant, he delivers his best yet again. His comic jugal bandi with Sangeeth Pratap is a treat to watch. Malavika Mohanan delivers her career best performance with great ease.

Sangita Nair looks perfect and her cuteness suits to the proceedings perfectly. Siddique as a greedy brother-in-law pulls off another comical performance that keeps the proceedings fun. While the movie doesn't really have a deep plot it delivers on the humor and human values front. Yet, the writing doesn't really stand out with screenplay hitting regular beats at every juncture. It feels like an overstretch at several places.

There are sequences that seem to be dragged out for the purpose of creating comedy rather than organically developing into a complete family entertainer. Also, film doesn't really add any innovation or novelty to the plot as it keeps roaming around in the similar areas without any strong pay-offs. Some predictable sequences do work because of the performances and Mohanlal's charm, his monologue at the climax make it watchable.

Bottomline:

A matured take on an awkward situation and situationship, but feels a bit dragged out.

Rating: 2.75/5
