Coolie underperforms but ends up being a profit

Coolie starring Superstar Rajinikanth, King Nagarjuna, Satyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Aamir Khan released on 14th August and it did not live up to expectations. The movie ended up being an underperformer at the box office as people did not expect such underwhelming film from director Lokesh Kanagaraj.
While bits of the film ended up being liked by Rajinikanth fans and Simon character, played by Nagarjuna, become a social media trend in Tamil Nadu, overall the movie did not live up to sky high expectations of being first Rs.1000 crore grosser for Tamil Cinema. But it still ended up being a profit to Sun Pictures.
The reports suggest that the movie cost Rs.400 crores, approximately, to the producers including remunerations. It is expected cross Rs.450 crores gross worldwide by this weekend. It is expected to collect a share of Rs.63 crores in Tamil Nadu, by the end of its run.
From non-theatrical ringhts it collected Rs.220 crores. From Overseas, it collected Rs.75 crores as the makers have already sold it. From North India it collected Rs.13 crores, and from Kerala it collected R.9 crores. Already, producers got Rs.44 crores from Telugu distribution and Rs.20 crores from Karnataka.
While it is set to lose Rs.15 crores from Telugu states, 5 crores from Karnataka and Rs.5 crores from Overseas. While it lost Rs.25 crores for buyers, it ended bringing Rs.54 crores profit to production house, Sun Pictures, as it is projected to collect total revenue of Rs.454 crores for the production house including non-theatrical rights.
Even if Sun Pictures decides to return some percentage of losses to the distributors who lost amounts, still it is a profit to the producers. Well, Sun Pictures could be expecting Rs.1000 crores collections from Jailer 2 with Rajinikanth and Nelson coming back.
