Anudeep states Funky will be different from Jathi Ratnalu

After redefining comedy with Jathi Ratnalu, director K.V. Anudeep is now returning to theatres with Funky to deliver another round of laughter. Starring “Mass Ka Das” Vishwak Sen as the lead, the film features Kayaadu Lohar as the heroine. The film is presented by Srikara Studios and produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sitara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. Music is composed by Bheems Ceciroleo.

Releasing a day before Valentine’s Day on February 13, Funky has already generated strong expectations. The teaser, trailer, and songs have been widely appreciated and have doubled the buzz around the film. As the film prepares to hit theatres, promising a memorable entertainment experience, director K.V. Anudeep interacted with the media and shared several interesting insights about the movie.

What was the idea behind the title ‘Funky’?
The title Funky is catchy and suits the sensibilities of today’s generation. It also perfectly fits the hero’s character.

How will Vishwak Sen’s character be?
Vishwak Sen plays a film director in this movie. While writing the character, I felt only Vishwak could do justice to it. His comedy timing in Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi is excellent.

What is the genre and story of Funky? Is it different from Jathi Ratnalu?
Compared to Jathi Ratnalu, Funky is completely different. It is an out-and-out romantic comedy and a family entertainer. The film humorously portrays certain situations from directors’ lives in a way that common audiences can relate to. Along with the love story, there are strong emotional family moments as well. There are scenes that connect with real-life experiences. The film will appeal to all sections of the audience.

Will there be logic in Funky?
Definitely. Just because my films have a lot of comedy, people may assume there is no logic, but there is logic in all my films.

Some filmmakers tried Jathi Ratnalu-style humor and failed. What’s your take?
The world we create and the characters we write should feel close to real life. Comedy should come across as natural. Only then will it connect with the audience. Even though Funky has a film industry backdrop, we have designed it to feel relatable to common viewers.

Did you act in this film? Do you plan to become a full-time actor?
I appear in a guest role in Funky. I am more interested in being a director than an actor. I have no plans to become a full-time actor. I still have many stories to tell and want to continue directing films.

The comedy punches in the trailer landed really well. Will you only make comedy films?
I want to make different kinds of films. Trailers are designed to be highly entertaining to grab attention. In Funky, along with comedy, there is a beautiful love story and emotional family moments. Everything has come together well. There are also a few surprises in the film.

Who appears in guest roles in this film?
Directors Harish Shankar and Kalyan Shankar, along with producers Dil Raju and Naga Vamsi, appear in guest roles. However, these roles are integrated into the story, and we have tried to generate humor through natural conversations with them.

Did the result of your previous film ‘Prince’ affect you?
Success and failure are part of filmmaking. Every film is made with the intention of delivering something good. For Prince, we didn’t have enough time to properly develop the script. For Funky, we took adequate time and prepared a strong script.

Whom did you narrate Funky’s story to first?
I first narrated it to producer Naga Vamsi. He liked it and immediately agreed to make the film.

Did Trivikram watch the film?
Yes, he watched it during post-production. He liked the film and gave some valuable suggestions.

About producer Chinababu (S. Radha Krishna)?
I worked very closely with him on this film. I used to discuss everything with him, and he gave many inputs and suggestions.

How will Naresh’s character be?
His character is very good. While writing it, I felt only Naresh garu could play it. I have admired him since childhood. I worked with him in Jathi Ratnalu, and I’m happy to collaborate with him again.

About Bheems Ceciroleo’s music?
It was very comfortable working with him. He respects directors and is always available. He has delivered wonderful music for Funky.

What is the censor report?
The film’s runtime is 2 hours and 5 minutes. The censor board has given it a U/A certificate and appreciated the film.

What are your next projects?
I have commitments with three production houses. I am writing a female-oriented story, and I am also developing a script for Venkatesh garu.
