“We chose Hyderabad as one of the major metros for our expansion plans because it is a very happening place, with an increasing number of cinema-going crowds,” says Gautam Aich, Divisional Head, Programming, and Adlabs. The multiplex will be called 24 Carat and will have four screens with a seating capacity of 1,365.
The second multiplex is GVK, which has been planned by the INOX group and is scheduled to open in mid-2007 but the one which has been arousing considerable curiosity is the multiplex that is scheduled to come up at Banjara Hills opposite the L.V. Prasad Eye Hospital. The multiplex is called, RK Cineplex and is a joint endeavor between the Cinemax group and famed director, K. Raghavendra Rao, who is making his debut in exhibition.
“We had been working on the idea of foraying into exhibition for some time and the Cinemax group is one of the most reputed groups in the exhibition business,” says Prasad Devineni, nephew of Raghavendra Rao and developer and owner of the RK Cineplex. According to Devineni, the Hyderabad audiences have had to forego quality films on several occasions due to the shortage of screens. “We are trying to bridge that gap with our multiplex.” The multiplex will have three screens with a seating capacity of 950 and is scheduled to open in June 2007.
