Sumitra Mahajan elected as LS Speaker

 

The senior most parliamentarian Sumitra Mahajan was elected as speaker of Lok Sabha today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proposed her name and it was supported by party senior leader LK Advani. Total 13 Leaders from ruling NDA and opposition parties have made similar motions proposing her name, which were approved by the members. Later, she has been escorted to her Chair by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, LK Advani, opposition leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Mulayam Singh Yadav and many others.

 

Sumitra Mahajan (71) was born on 1943 in Chiplun of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra. She enters into politics as municipal corporator in 1982. She won Lok Sabha seat from Indore for eight consecutive times, including in the latest elections. She served Vajpayee government as minister of state for Human Resources, Communications and IT and Petroleum and Natural Gas.
