Torrential rains in Uttarakhand kills 30

Torrential rains and landslides lashed Chamoli and Pittoragarh districts of Uttarakhand on Friday, killing 30 people. The Centre on Friday rushed rescue teams of National Disaster Response Force to Uttarakhand. The Alaknanda river rose above the danger level mark after receiving rainfall upto 54 mm in the last 24 hours.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh spoke to chief minister Harish Rawat on phone and took stock of the situation arising out of the cloudburst and heavy rains various parts of the state. He has assured all the help required from the centre's side. He said, "NDRF teams have been rushed to the areas affected by cloudburst in Uttarakhand. Additional teams of NDRF are also put on alert".People are being being moved out of low-lying areas by the officials and the rescue teams. The Chief Minister has announced a compensation of 2 lakh rupees for the kin of the deceased.
