The party defection spree continues and this time its 2 down for Congress and two up for the TDP. Senior Congress leader Gangula Prathapa Reddy and his brother G Prabhakara Reddy of the Allagadda constituency in Kurnool district have joined the Telugu Desam Party. A Congress strongman for many years who has been elected as an MP and served as an MLA will be the key opponent to YSRCP party Bhuma Nagi Reddy. Sidelined by the Congress party after he sacrificed and vacated his seat in favour of P V Narasimha Rao , he was clear in his stance that he would not join the Congress again. This move is seen to be heightening the Seema faction politics with him pitted against the Bhuma family.
The next entrant is former Congress minister Sathrucharla Vijayaramaraju a former minister both in the YSR regime and the Rosaiah cabinet and assembly member from the Pathapatnam constituency in Srikakulam. He also had one foot in the TDP once as an MP and then moved on to the Congress and is again slated to join the party officially on Friday.
The youngest MLA from Wyra constituency in Khammam district, Dr.Banoth Chandravathi is also keen to move out of the Communist fold and join the TDP. Hailing from a staunch Communist family and an active CPI member even before completing her MBBS was elected to the assembly as a CPI member. But now her seat has been given to another person and this led to her being disgruntled and she wants to change her party. Whether she will join or not will be known after she is slated to meet Mr Naidu in a day or two.
