Hyderabad is a metropolitan city and so it has mixed set of people
living in it. While Muslim people are concentrated more towards
the old city like Charminar, Secunderabad has got a more contemporary
look with a concentration of people of different castes. In general,
hyderabadi people are considered to be very friendly and hospitable.
We welcome every culture and blend in all the styles of the world.
Usually, if one talks about hyderabadi people, the first that would
come in their mind would be that “Hyderabadis are a lazy lot”.
Also, people here are fond of watching movies. On weekends it is
impossible to get the tickets, since more than half of the people
watch movies. Going for movies is the best outing option here. Hyderabadi
people live simple lives and enjoy small little things. Though they
are a little laid back and take time to accept new things, still,
it is the warmer lot. The best of both the societies can be found
here. All over the country people are aware of the tasty Irani Chai.
There are numerous Irani Cafes here that provide Irani Chai. With
a cup of Chai, a hyderabadi can chat for long hours of time. One
thing is for sure; you can never get bored sitting with a hyderabadi.
They can keep on chatting. Sometimes, you will have to tell them
to vacate the place for peace. Apart from Irani Chai, alcohol is
another partner of hyderabadis to chat with. ‘Baitaks’,
that is, formal sittings are organized with friends to drink and
chat together. These ‘Baitaks’ are mostly held at a
friend’s place and not in bars or restaurants. Like their
nature hyderabadi speak very lovable language. While the language
spoken here varies from person to person and most of the times mixed
with mother tongues of respective caste people. One language that
is liked and spoken by all is ‘hyderabadi language’.
Hyderabadi language is famous all through the country. Nakko, Howli,
Hau are common words that you might have heard when roaming around
the city. The Hyderabadi Urdu is more like city's dialect of Hindi-
a 'la Ebonics Language you see. Like the Mumbaiyya 'Tapori', Hyderabadi
lingo too has its own distinct sound and flavour. And yes, it is
more varied as it has its own dialects in different parts of the
city. Though the original Urdu language is different, over the years,
the Urdu that we speak in Hyderabad is a mix of Urdu, Telugu, and
Hindi that has resulted in the invention of very unique and funny
words that can be found nowhere but in Hyderabad.
A brief of few words that are commonly used in hyderabadi language
are mentioned below. Do try to use them when in the city. Once you
start using these words, you will like using it again and again.
Also, the affection that you get from the people here will be good
to feel.
It is funny but a friendly language.
