As the Zika virus is getting unstoppable, the scientists all over the world are searching for various remedies to curb the mosquitoes which spread the virus. GBIT- A firm in Maharashtra is now making arrangements to produce genetically modified (GM) mosquitoes. In such a process, GBIT would release the male mosquitoes which would result in off springs that would die soon. Such a process was already been implemented in countries such as Brazil. According to GBIT, the genetically modified mosquitoes would result in a drastic decline in mosquito population. It might reduce their numbers upto 90 percent within six months! Last week Bharat biotech of Hyderabad has created a sensation by announcing that it has almost found a vaccine for the Zika. So! The government might not be in a haste to let genetically modified mosquitoes in the air. If it does, some GM mosquitoes may soon fly around us.
