SC adjourns petition seeking stay on Yakub’s punishment

Yakub Memon’s wife has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking stay on her husband’s death punishment to be implemented on July 30th. She also appealed the apex court to convert his punishment to life imprisonment. Supreme Court adjourned this case to Tuesday after hearing the arguments of Advocate General of India Mukul Rohatgi, who represents Maharashtra government. He argued that Yakub Memon deserves death punishment because 250 innocent citizens were killed in the serial bomb blasts conspired by him and his brother Tiger Memon. The apex court will announce its verdict after hearing the arguments of petitioner’s lawyers tomorrow.
