Death penalty for 5 out of 12 convicts in Mumbai blasts case

 

The Mumbai Special Court pronounced capital punishment for five convicts and life term for 7 others in Mumbai local trains serial bomb blasts case of 2006. Bombs were planted in the first class compartments of five local trains that were plying between Khar Road-Santacruz, Bandra-Khar Road, Jogeshwari-Mahim Junction, Mira Road- Bhayander, Matunga- Mahim Junction and Borivali stations on July 11th, 2006. They were exploded in a short span of 10 minutes in which total 188 people were killed and 829 were injured. During 8 years of trial, 192 witnesses were prosecuted, including doctors, IAS and IPS officers.

 

The special Court judge Yatin D Shinde pronounced capital punishment to Kamal Ahamed Ansari (37), Mohd Faisal Shaikh (36), Ehtesham Siddiqui (30), Naveed Hussain Khan (30) and Asif Khan (38). Out of the 13 accused only one person named Abdul Wahid Shaikh was acquitted on September 12th from this case and rest of them got due punishments today. However, still some accused are absconding from the police.
