Rahul hits back at YSR Congress party

AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who is currently visiting in Ananthapur district, said that he come to the state after knowing about farmers and handloom workers miserable condition. He said that Congress party has promised to grant special status to the AP state, but the Modi government is not implementing it.

Rahul said that he doesn’t understand what the state government and the main opposition party (YSRCP) is doing when the Modi government is not granting special status to the state. He said TDP and YSRCP both seem to be afraid to ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi about special status and Polavaram project. He promised the people that his party will fight on their behalf with the state and central governments.

Just ahead of his padayatra in the state, YSR Congress party strongly criticized Rahul Gandhi after hearing that he is going to garland late YSR statue. Now, he criticizes YSR Congress party for being inactive on special status and Polavaram project. But, it is to be noted that both parties have been maintaining safe distance from each other since last one year. This is first time that they are criticizing each other.

Rahul Gandhi may be trying to highlight a point that his Congress party is playing the main opposition party role in the AP state by fighting alone for the special status and Polavaram project, but YSRCP fails. It is true that Congress party is fighting for the special status, but really not for it. It is fighting to win the hearts of the people and thus to strengthen the party in the state again.

But, YSRCP never fought for special status, except its MPs occasionally demanding for it in the parliament. It may be hesitating to fight on this issue because it doesn’t want to trouble BJP as it is still hopeful to have alliance with it in future. Hence, YSRCP is mainly focusing on local issues like crop loans waiver, Hudhud relief works, land acquisition for capital city, Pattiseema project, Pushkaralu tragedy etc.

Hence, Rahul Gandhi’s observation about YSRCP stand on these issues is quite justified. But, his views on the ruling TDP can’t be justified, because being alliance partner of BJP and partner in the Modi Government, TDP can’t hit the roads like opposition parties demanding special status or Polavaram project. But, certainly it’s MPs and ministers are putting constant pressure on the Centre to fulfill all its promises.
