Church seeks explanation for marrying Hindu

In a rare incident which might trigger some controversy, a church in Kerala questioned the marital relation of its member. Benny Thommana of St Joseph's Church at Oorakam had married a Hindu women named Lija Jayasudhan. This marriage has took place over 10 years ago and was even registered under the Special Marriage Act in 2005. Everything seems to be fine and the couple were rejoicing their marital bliss. Trouble began to brew when a Church Father came to bless the house. Realising that Benny’s wife was not a Christian, said Father began to insist for her baptism into the church. When Benny denied the request saying that she has the right to choose her religion, he received a letter seeking his appearance before the church tribunal. Though Benny is not in a mood to offer an explanation, the church isn’t to back off either. Would it expel him. Will have to wait and see!
