Two Indians working in Kuwait convicted with death sentence by the local court for murdering a Sri Lankan citizen, has been put on hold just hours before their execution on June 16th. Suresh Shanmuga Sundaram and Kalidas Chellaiyan were found guilty in murdering Sitheek Masudah.
The Islamic laws allow one to go free, if he pays the blood money to the victims’ family member and pardoned by them. Though, the convicted have entered into an agreement to pay the ‘blood money’, due to unknown reasons it couldn’t be implemented. Hence, the court has convicts them both with death sentence to be executed on June 16th.
However, the appeals from the family members of the convicted to Indian Commission worked well, and the timely reaction by the Commission officials have saved the two lives. The Commission officials have convinced the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, the Minister of Amiri Diwan and Kuwait minister of Justice. The external affairs ministry of the country has announced the government’s decision to put the execution on hold to provide more time to the convicted to fulfill the agreement regarding payment of blood money.
