Top cop transferred due to monster traffic jam

Heavy rains and subsequent waterlogging crippled several parts of Gurgaon leaving thousands of people stranded for hours. A day after the Millennium City was gridlocked for more than 20 hours due to heavy rainfall, the Gurugram Police commissioner Navdeep Virk was transferred to Rohtak. Virk will be replaced by Sandeep Khirawar. Virk has also put the blame on civic agencies stating that they failed to check the waterlogging. While the stranded public accused that police was not visible on the roads hours after tumult began, Virk claims that police was actively involved in helping the public. Prohibitory orders were imposed near Hero Honda Chowk in Gurgaon, dubbed as 'Millenium City', in a bid to ease the congestion caused by massive traffic jams.

Schools were also ordered to be shut down in the city. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday called an emergency meeting in Chandigarh to tackle the ongoing traffic jam and waterlogging problem. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had also ordered National Highways chief Raghav Chandra to send a team of officials to clear the traffic.
