Shock for India as Narsingh Yadav fails dope test

Rio Olympics-bound wrestler in 74 kg category Narsingh Yadav tested positive for a banned steroid, according to National Anti-Doping Agency Director General Navin Agarwal. His Olympics accreditation has also been withheld.Yadav secured Olympics quota in 2015 when he won the bronze at the world wrestling championships in the US. The 26-year-old Yadav faces suspension from all competitions after his B sample, the confirmatory test, also returned positive.

The bad news for India is the country may go unrepresented in the 74kg wrestling category as the last date for changes in the games squad was July 18. Countries can now only seek replacements for injured athletes, sources said. Responding to the report, the wrestler said, "This is a conspiracy against me. I am sure the truth will come out". He added, "I have never taken any banned substance. I know Indian Olympic Association will support me". He tested positive during a routine test on July 5. He appeared before a disciplinary panel on Saturday. The panel sought more reports regarding the matter.
