The poor ratio of doctors to patients in India, which is at 1:1,681, is hindering healthcare services across the country. The distribution of doctors in the country is so baised that, among the 9.5 lakh doctors just, four states, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and undivided Andhra Pradesh, have nearly 46% of all doctors registered in the country. This leaves bigger states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and others with few doctors to share between them.
