THE TEMPLE THAT’S FAMOUS FOR ITS THOUSAND PILLARS!

The southern part of India has many beautiful temples. One of them is the Thousand Pillar Temple in Warangal. To tell you its exact location, the temple is situated near the Hanamkonda-Warangal Highway in Telangana State, about 150 kilometers from Hyderabad city. Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Surya are the presiding deities of the temple. As the name suggests the thousand pillars are the attraction of the temple. Build by King Rudra Deva in 1163 AD, the temple projects a unique style of construction.

Despite having thousand pillars, its amazing how none of them obstruct your view of god from any part of the temple. Its construction is dated back to the 12 century and it is known as the best example of Kakatiya architecture. History recorded an incident of the temple being destroyed by the Tughlaqs but it stands tall even after all the attacks on it. The responsibility of renovating the temple was taken up by the Government of India in the year 2004. Today it is a popular location for film shootings. It is also the proud host of the Kakatiya festival every year. I can’t wait to discover the beauty of the Thousand Pillar Temple. What about you?
