A middle aged couple and a man friend visited a ‘Wishing Well’ somewhere in Ireland.
The husband dropped a penny in the well and silently made a wish.
The wife tried to do likewise but leaned over too far, fell into the well and got drowned.
The fresh widower turned to his friend and murmured:
“Never thought these things worked.”
