Gattamaneni Mahesh Babu was born on August 9, 1974 to Gattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna and Indira in Chennai. He spent his childhood in Chennai under the supervision of his favorite paternal grandmother Smt. Durgamma. His schooling (St Bede’s School) was in Chennai and he was already a promising child artist by that time. Mahesh was graduated in Commerce from Loyola College, Chennai and took a break from the celluloid.

The year 1999 saw Mahesh Babu making his debut into Telugu movies with the movie Rajukumarudu (with subtitle Prince). And since then he was christened with Prince by his fans. Basking on his father’s great popularity, Mahesh Babu then did Yuvaraju (2000), which did reasonably good at the box office. His subsequent movie Vamsi (2000) did not do well, but he struck back with Murari (2001).

Although Takkari Donga (2002) and Bobby (2002) did not lend him success, Okkadu (2003) was a smash hit and Mahesh Babu was able to create his own market and come out of his father’s shadow. Nijam (2003) and Nani (2004) did not lend him success although Nijam was critically acclaimed.

Arjun (2004) lent him good credibility and gave enough scope for him to target even family audience. In 2005, Athadu was a huge success and Mahesh Babu started to dominate Tollywood industry. Pokiri (2006) was a sensation and rewrote all previous Telugu cinema industry records. And Mahesh Babu became on the top Telugu cinema heroes and there was no stopping Mahesh.

Sainikudu (2006), Athidhi (2007) were pretty disappointing. Even his recent Khaleja (2010) was also a let down. Mahesh Babu is currently wrapping up shooting for Dookudu, directed by Seenu Vytla and The Businessman, directed by Puri Jagannath.

Basking on his celluloid success and popularity, Corporate brands like Thums Up, Navarathna Hair Oil, UniverCell, Amruthanjan, Provogue etc came forward to rope Mahesh Babu as their brand ambassador. In fact, Mahesh Babu became the only actor in the history Telugu cinema till date to endorse 5 brands.
