Ajay Devgn has been concentrating on developing his film IPs to make them into franchises. Now, after Raid 2, he is back with Son of Sardaar 2, sequel to his 13 years back hit, Son of Sardaar. He took innocent Sardaar character from the original, inspired by Maryada Ramanna, to Scotland, in this one. Mrunal Thakur also joined him and the fingers step has become a big troll topic. Let's discuss about the film, in detail.

Plot:

Jessie (Ajay Devgn) gets married to Dimple (Neeru Bajwa) but she settles in London. Due to the long distance relationship, Jessie keeps missing her and finally, gets Visa to meet her. But he finds out that she is cheating on him and divorces him. He meets Rabiya (Mrunal Thakur), who is a Pakistani singer in a band, and he is asked to act as her husband, so that a youngster Saba from her band, gets married. He has to portray, an Indian Army Colonel, in front of a rich businessman Raja (Ravi Kishan), so that, he agrees for his son's marriage with Saba. Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis

Ajay Devgn needs to give up on this hackneyed franchise gag. He seems to be hell bent on making some or the film into a franchise from his filmography. Golmaal and Singham have already become franchises for him. Now, he is looking to force franchises into Raid, Son of Sardaar and De De Pyaar De. Son of Sardaar did not become such a popular hit at the box office, except for its clash with Jab Tak Hai Jaan. And it shows in this sequel, too.

The jokes fall flat and the kind of gags they have planned to introduce the conflict of the story is also unimpressive. Each and every gag gets repetitively bad as the film progresses. Ravi Kishan tried to salvage it with his performance but he is unable to really land the uninspiring lines. He tried his best as he is able to get the Punjabi accent right. Mrunal Thakur looked beautiful in few scenes but majorly, the make up and outfits did not suit her.

The over generic masala troupes are glaring in everyone's face and it is hard to look beyond it. It seems like a forced sequel to a not so funny film and the movie has only one or two gags working at best. Border movie gag works to some extent but India - Pakistan dynamic in the dialogues seem to have been overused and film grows into becoming a headache inducing clumsy drama rather than being a good entertainer. Let's hope such forced sequels will soon go out of trend.

Bottomline:

This Son of Sardaar has nothing funny or substantial to offer.

Rating: 1.5/5
