Age is no bar if you want to
achieve or do something for society. And Shravya Mallavarapu believes in this. What else would you say
about a girl who's a good student, a painter, a singer and more than
everything else a staunch environmentalist.
A student of
St. Paul
, this Std. IX girl heads the
National Green Corps (NGC) at her school and is an active member of
Friendship Foundation, a NGO that works towards creating awareness about
protecting the environment. Not only that, she's a life member of the Blue
Cross, Kids for Tigers and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) as well.
Recognising her achievement, Shravya has been nominated to the top three finalists in
the leader category, in the age group of 6 to 16, for POGO channel's Amazing
Kids Award 2006. What makes this occasion even more special is the fact that
she is the only one from
South India
to make it.
As a part of United Nations
Environmental Project (UNEP) she created an artificial scrub forest, to show
that it's possible and also very helpful for the surrounding areas, on a plot
of land in Vikarabad, near Miyapur and even went to the
U.S.
and Japan to present it at various
international conferences.
She loves to read books on animal
and environment and that is when she is not chatting away with her friends
online or not attending her tuition and Carnatic music classes. “I was learning karate, but stopped it due to lack of time”
says the soft-spoken girl, who has already started preparing for her IIT-JEE.
"I want to get into IIT-Roorkee, as it has a
Himalayan Explorer Club," says this trekking freak.
