No Rahul impact on recent elections?

The inspiring speech delivered by the newly appointed Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi at brain storming sessions at Rajasthan and his consequent actions in the recently held meetings with PCCB Chiefs and CMs of Congress ruled governments, seems have no impact at all on the recent elections held at three north eastern states Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya.

Out of 3 states Congress was able to win in only one state Meghalaya, where the outgoing CM Mukul Sangma’s influence on the state has brought 29 out 60 seats for the party. In Tripura, Congress party couldn’t stop the Left Front government from retaining the power for the 5th consecutive time. The verdict in Nagaland is also no different to Tripura. Naga Peoples’ Front has returned to power for third time thus leaving no room for Congress party in the state.

Although, the Congress tried to downplay this verdict, it highlights that there is no impact of Rahul Gandhi on these elections. At the same time, it also makes Congress realize that the regional parties can’t be underestimated or can’t be dominated come whoever takes charge of the party. Hence, it would be an eye opener for Congress, which is dreaming to retain power in the next elections. Probably, this verdict may force Congress and its new boss Rahul Gandhi to seek alliance with regional parties to keep afloat after the elections.
