The Partition of the Telugu Pride

Is today the last day for the unified Telugu Pride? With the T Bill being thrashed out at the Parliament today and the uncertainty that looms over whether Andhra Pradesh splits into two, it leaves one with a sense of gloom as to how are we going to cope with this Partition of the 21st century.   At this juncture we should look at the historic win of the late legendary actor and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr N.T Rama Rao in 1983 with his Telugu Desam party – based on the Telugu Sentiment. Within 9 months of establishing the Party and with the support of the Telugu people he was voted to power and put the face of Andhra Pradesh on the Indian Political map. Who can ever forget his historic ride to the LB Stadium in Hyderabad in the 1980’s, after being insulted during the Indira Gandhi’s regime. Wearing Khakis, sans makeup  on an open top jeep where he gathered followers on the way and mind you this was all off the cuff – no stage management, no paying people to come and attend the event, it was just his fans, followers  & admirers who came running after him that day. Some of them joining him  and the party out of sheer loyalty  and of course the pride of being a Telugu. That was the charisma of the first Non-Congress chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. We should also acknowledge his son-in-law Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu in putting AP on  the Global map as one of the best states to invest in the IT front . But now we need to see how the country and the world are viewing our state after the session. Now this is not about showing any allegiance to one  party or person, just an observation of the state of affairs of both sides of our leaders who are caught up in this T trauma. What is it that is being depicted in the Parliament today where our Telugu leaders are battling for both the separation and unity of the state and trying to grab eyeballs with their antics , certainly puts to shame the Telugu Pride which was so carefully  cultivated and made the state of Andhra Pradesh what it is. Hope we don’t get to see an exodus of people moving from one state to another like we saw during the India – Pakistan partition in 1947!   P.Charitha

Will President’s Rule imposed on state?

CM Kiran Kumar Reddy is said to be planning to resign tomorrow after confirming that T-Bill is presented in Lok Sabha. He is likely to recommend the governor Narasimhan to dissolve his cabinet immediately. However, Governor may prefer to follow Congress high command’s orders rather than following Kiran Kumar Reddy’s recommendation.   So, there are three options before the Centre. 1. Imposing President’s Rule. 2. Appoint new CM. 3. Put the Assembly in suspended animated mode until Parliament decides about bifurcation bill.   Imposing President’s Rule will seize its chances to manage the elections. It may not able to handle the administration as it wishes before and during the elections period. So, it has to think about other two options.   Appointing a new Chief Minister for a couple of months may be good idea but looks very silly and embarrassing because it may be inviting fresh troubles from different groups within. So, the best option would be putting the Assembly in sleep mode until T-Bill is passed in the Parliament. Once it is passed it can bring the Assembly to live position any time and can bank upon TRS and MIM support to run the show. Then, it can appoint its loyalists as Chief Ministers and PCC Presidents to both states. This gives an edge for Congress high command to gain full control its leaders and their groups. It can distribute the power among its loyalists and ensure a smooth passage for the party in the elections.

Can CM Kiran able to launch new party?

CM Kiran Kumar Reddy is likely to resign tomorrow owing to his stand taken in favor of Samaikyandhra. Some of his close aides are stating that he may launch new political party very soon. However, his rival group in the party led by Botsa Satyanarayana is stating that no one would follow him and the idea of launching the new party would be a disaster. So, if he fails to take away majority of the Congress leaders with him, he can’t afford to launch his new party. So is Botsa swings into action to stop the leaders from going with him. There are particular problems in launching of new political party. If seen his nature of handling the matters without taking the others into confidence, he may not let others take charge of his new party, though they may be very seniors to him. He never let his cabinet colleagues share the information of his schemes or claim credit of them. He even followed the same principal during his fight for Samaikyandhra. Except him, all his colleagues could not catch the limelight in the entire struggle. So, he may not allow anyone to steal the show in his new party also. This may discourage many to join him.   Moreover his rival group argues that there is no meaning in launching a party in the name of Samaikyandhra after state is virtually divided into two. However, even if launches his new party after bifurcation, he has nothing to offer to people in return except a non-congress-government that carries a clear Congress mark across it. So, this may make the people suspect his honesty and his party intentions.   If he is launching the new party following his high command’s directions to split the votes and to stop TDP from coming to power, it is very difficult to convince the people that his party will not merge with Congress or support it after elections. So, there are several odds to think about before launching a new party. However, he has not many options except retiring from politics.

Why Cong is asking BJP support for T-Bill?

It is very interesting to see Sonia Gandhi, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Jairam Ramesh are appealing BJP to extend their support to T-Bill in the Parliament, while Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamalnath is quite sure of passing it without BJP support. Even today also he categorically stated that Lok Sabha will discuss and pass the T-Bill tomorrow and Rajya Sabha on the next day. TRS president KCR said that T-Bill will be passed with voice vote. So, when Congress has a strategy for passing the T-Bill without BJP support, then why it is roaming around BJP with folded hands?   Ever since, the T-Bill lands in its lap, Congress is trying to highlight about its honesty and determination to pass the bill, while underlining the necessity of BJP support to it, as to send a strong message to people of Telangana about BJP’s unwillingness for Telangana state creation. Hence, it will build pressure on BJP and force it extend its support to the T-Bill or be prepared to face Telangana people’s anguish for not supporting it.   BJP also realized this crooked idea being played by Congress. So, BJP leaders have made certain suggestions and amendments to the T-Bill that is not acceptable to Congress. They are also insisting for an in-depth debate on the T-Bill, which is also highly impossible in the present situation. So, Congress and BJP are desperately trying to throw the ball into other’s court to transfer the blame on to other. However, they can continue this game hardly for three more days only. If, BJP wants to escape unhurt from this whole affair, it may stage a walkout during voting and let the Congress pass the T-Bill with voice vote.
