  • Maharashtra vs. Johnson&Johnson

Maharashtra government seems to have taken cue from a case in US, where a baby powder was found to have caused Ovarian cancer. A 62-year-old Jacqueline Fox was thought to have died of such cancer after using Johnson&Johnson baby powder. An US court in Missouri has thus ordered Johnson and Johnson to pay $72 million in damages for causing such cancer. There were serious allegations that the baby powder of J&J contains certain amount of carcinogens. These are the substances that might cause cancerous conditions in a person. With almost 1200 such cases pending in US, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) department has stepped in to find out the reality by itself. It has collected samples of Johnson&Johnson powder along with brands such as Shower to Shower, Dermicool, Ponds and Nycil. The FDA has sent those samples to the labs to find out whether they include any harmful material, that might be hazardous to the consumers. The Maharashtra FDI has always been tough in implementing the safety standards. It has previously slapped several notices on Johnson&Johnson to ensure the safety of its products. But this time, things seems to be much serious.

ISIS tried to kidnap a Prime Minister

ISIS might be the terrorist group that would bring shivers to any country. But its shocking to know that they have almost kidnapped the Prime Minister of a country. Yesterday, Malaysian deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has revealed about that foiled plot to his Parliament. According to Hamidi, ISIS has tried to kidnap their country’s PM Najib Razak along with other main cabinet ministers. "On Jan. 30, 2015, a total of 13 people with ties to ISIS had planned to kidnap the leaders, including the prime minister, home minister and defense minister," said the deputy PM. He said that ISIS has also planned for multiple attacks on various cities in Malaysia. However those plans were foiled by the Malaysian Intelligence. Though Malaysia is a Islamic state, it was often seen to be liberal towards non-muslims. The Malaysian government and the people were known to be peace loves and devoid of extremist views. But with the latest development, even Malaysia doesn’t seem to be safe from the fangs of ISIS.

Anupam is a real life villain- BJP MP

Anupam might be a hardcore fan of Narendra Modi. It was even whispered that he got the Padma award for supporting the ruling BJP on the issues of intolerance and JNU. But an emotional speech made by Anupam has landed him in collusion with certain leaders of BJP. Speaking at the `Telegraph Annual Debate’ in Kolkata, Anupam has indicated that 'people like Yogi Adityanath and Sadhvi Prachi who speak nonsense should be thrown out of the BJP and put behind bars.’ Anupam was trying to justify his feeling that BJP was being termed as intolerant, due to the words of certain leaders like Adityanadh. Adityanadh was often known to feed the newspapers with rude with his rude comments over sensitive issues. For example- In June 9th 2015, Yogi Adityanath declared that those who oppose Yoga can leave India and they should be drowned.’ So, we can always expect a repartee from Adityanadh on the speech of Anupam and he did! `Anupam Kher has proved that he is a villain not only on reel but also in real life,’ was the reaction of Adityanadh over Anupam’s remarks. Well! All doesn’t seem to be well for Anupam from BJP.

    Social Boycott Bill in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government has decided to introduce the 'Prohibition of Social boycott bill.' This will be tabled in the budget session of state Legislature starting from today. The casteism in Maharashtra is severe and the rural areas of the state are still in the grip of caste panchayats. These panchayats has been highly discriminative against the lower castes of the villages. People belonging to castes such as `Mahars’ would not be allowed even to touch the water from common wells. In other words, the lower castes were socially boycotted. They weren’t allowed to live along with the rest of their villagers. Though various governments have tried to end this disparity, such measures were soon met with sever resistance from the upper class of the society. Now, the present chief minister  Devendra Fadnavis is trying to bring up the bill to fight this partiality through legal means. "Strict punishment provisions have been made in this bill to end this harassment and gives the right to live life with dignity," tweeted Devendra regarding this bill. That’s all we can hope!

    Vijay Mallya has left India?

As the public sector banks were trying to restrain Mallya from leaving India, sources say that he might have already left the country. Some suspect him to be in Switzerland- a safe place for the rich. Mallya was liable for taking almost 7,800 crore rupees from various banks in the disguise of his company. The plea by a consortium of 17 banks, led by the State Bank of India, is going to be heard by Supreme Court today. These banks have been pleading the apex court to seize the parrport of Mallya to restrain him within the country. Mallya was last seen in Rajya sabha as he is one of the `honourable’ members of Rajya sabha. Later he issued a statement in which he clearly stated- ` I have neither the intention nor any reason to abscond.’ If that is so.... then where is he!

Women to drive fighter planes in India

It’s probably one of the sweetest news we have heard on this women’s day. Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha has declared that women can hereby enter the arena of running the fighter planes. Though the Indian army has women in its pay rolls, the jobs for the women are restricted to few fields. Most of them work in non combat areas. But now, three women are going to run the fighter planes from this June. After the go ahead given by the defense minister as well as the president of India, the Indian Airforce has trained these three women who have volunteered themselves for the role. India though boasts of giving equal opportunities to women, has never taken a lead to induce women into armed forms. That was the reason why only 2.5 percent of our armed forces consists of women employees. But now... we can probably expect things to get better.

    NO TAX ON EPF

The central government has at last decided to roll back on its decision to make 60% of Employees Provident fund taxable. Earlier, in the budget, finance minister Arun Jaitley has declared that 40% of the EPF withdrawal would not be taxable.... which meant that other 60% is certainly taxable. This has aroused huge criticisms against the government. Later, the government has tried to clarify that its only the interest on the 60% that would be taxable. But that too didn’t appease the middle class. Further the government has said the amount would not be taxable if it’s invested in some annuity. But that explanation too did not woo the people. Employees provident fund is is India’s largest social security scheme with 6 crore people depending on it for living after retirement. Arun Jaitley has to meet with several pleas and threats from all over the society on his decision to tax EPF. Finally he has today stated that the proposal to tax 60% of EPF is to be nullified. That’s certainly a good news!

Balayya in trouble over his comments

Telugu viewers have often taken the speeches of Balakrishna to be granted. His oratory skills were generously accepted. But time seems to be tough with Balayya babu this time. His remarks over women on the audio function of ‘Savitri’ is amassing criticism across the nation. The statement of Balakrishna that ‘his fans would accept him only if he kiss a girl or make her pregnant’ is being quoted on top banners across the magazines. A case was even filed in the Saroornagar police station. The opposition too seems to have been granted a cause by balayya for targeting him. YSR Congress leader Roja has demanded an apology from the actor. Balayya might not have expected such criticism from fans and foes alike. So he had to make a public statement apologizing women if his words have hurt them!

A culprit on the list of Mamata

Just a few hours after the election commission has announced its schedule for polling in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has issued a list of the candidates for the elections. Her list seemed to be balanced with enough priority for the minorities as well as women. However, the inclusion of Madan Mitra has raised too many eyebrows! Madan Mitra is in jail at present for his alleged involvement in the Saradha scam. CBI is also investigating his role in Rose Valley chit fund scam. Both these scams has battered the image of otherwise clean Mamata. But its interesting to watch her moral support for Madan Mitra. On other hand, Mamata has declared that she is going to campaign in Kerala against congress and CPI (M) parties. She blames them for lacking morality. And what about Madan Mitra?

North Korea gets ready for a Nuclear strike

The North Korean leader Kim Jong has made it clear that he is ready for a war. Yesterday, he has ordered the officials to set the nuclear arsenal of the country, to be ready for a strike at anytime. Kim has made these preparations, just a few hours after the UN has passed a resolution, penalizing North Korea for its recent nuclear test and long range rocket launch. The resolution which was drafted and pushed forward by US lays strict economical sanctions on North Korea. But Kim seems to have hit back by hinting that his nation is ready for it and more. Though it’s not new for the North Korea to be over ambitious about the war plans, political experts were of the fear, that the young blooded Kim Jong is certainly curious to start a war. If that is the case... with US on the side of South Korea and China in support with North Korea, a third world war might be inevitable!

    Modi launches `Setu Bharatam’ project

These bridges would be picked up basing on the requirement from a total of 1,50,000 bridges that lay across the nation. - Speaking at the launch, Modi has criticised that the earlier governments used to announced trains to please certain MPs, but has never cared about the infrastructure. - Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari too was present at the occasion.

BJP to target Rahul for racist marks...

Rahul Gandhi might have strongly criticised the government to let black money be changed into white, on the floor of parliament. “They launched a Fair and Lovely yojana to convert black money into white money. Modiji had promised that he would put people with black money behind bars, now they have come up with ways to save those people.” His comparison of the government’s initiative with the Fair and Lovely is drawing huge remarks from the opposition. They claim that such comparison reflects the mindset of Rahul Gandhi, that being dark is to be ugly. The ruling party is proposing to bring up a discussion to ban the advertisements such a Fair and Lovely, which hints that being a girl with dark complexion is a curse. But the real intention is to target the comments of Rahul Gandhi.

Gita and Koran along with CM’s biography

Winds of Change - the biography of Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav might have been a disaster in the book market. But the Samajwadi Party seems to use it in the best possible way... by distributing it for free! With the elections on the way in the next year, SP seems to boost up the shattered image of CM Akhilesh. Winds of Change, which was written by noted journalist Sunita Aron, was now being distributed among the public in Uttar Pradesh. What else! The biography was given along with Gita for Hindus and Koran for Muslims. Samajwadi party has been known to be supportive towards Muslims, but with the latest tactics, it seems to woo the people from both religions. Probably the party workers were of the view that if voters weren't impressed by the biography, they would certainly be impressed by the holy books.

    Modi comes back strongly

After all that’s happening in the parliament for past few days, everyone was eager to know about the response of Narendra Modi. He also urged to given importance for the first time MP’s to express their opinion.   - `Some people have aged physically, but not in maturity. Some people don’t understand but just want to oppose for the sake of it,’ mocked Modi.   - Prime Minister has criticised the Congress with strong words. He said that Congress could have helped the poor if it wished, but has done nothing for 60 years!   - Modi reiterated that there is no problem with the schemes, but the problem is with the accountability regarding their implementation.   Finally Modi requested the opposition to support the government in increasing such accountability.
