Bangalore Metro: First Phase Inaugurated

With the first phase of Namma Metro inaugurated on Thursday in the IT city, Bangalore became the third Indian city after Delhi and Kolkata to have its own metro service. The service, a 7 km stretch, will connect the eastern part of the city to Bangalore's business hub.
The Metro was inaugurated by Union Minister Kamal Nath, Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda and BJP leader Arun Jaitley. Also present at the inaugration were Union Corporate Affairs Minister Veerappa Moily, Ananth Kumar, Biocon MD Kiran Mazumdar, Infosys Founder Sudha Murthy and Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath. The metro will be open to the public from 4 pm on Thursday. The route has six stations and the entire ride will last 14 minutes.
