- The rebel Congress leader, Kalikho Pul was sworn in as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh last night.
- He claims to have the support of 32 members in the state assembly out of 50 members.
- On January 25th , the central cabinet has imposed the president’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh after a situation of political instability prevailing over the state.
- The situation in the state got worse as a few congress MLA’s dissended the then Chief Minsiter Nabam Tuki, and tried to run the Assembly on their own.
- This has led the governor to suggest a president’s rule in the state which was accepted by the Cabinet and then by the President.
- Though the Supreme court has been sceptical regarding the President’s rule, it has refused to intervene with the decision of the government.
- With the growing criticism against the President’s rule, the centre has finally called off the rule, paving the way for a new government to sworn in.
