1. Few Twists
3. Vignesh Shivan’s Taking
1. Tamil Flavor
3. Second Half
Gang is official remake of Hindi super hit Special 26. However, director Vignesh Shivan made adequate changes to the script. Movie starts with RJ Balaji attending an interview. This single episode describes Balaji’s character of chatty. Suriya is shown as guy willing to become a CBI officer. The police station and Suriya’s interview episodes are bang on, while first raid sequence was thrilling. Keerthy Suresh’s village episode was boring in first half. Coming to second half, movie runs at slow pace until Suriya and Gang take up new assignment to rob a jewelry shop. Father-son conversation was funny, wherein friend’s suicide episode was emotional. The mob interview was too good. Climax portion was completely changed and it was a real big twist.
Suriya is remarkable in the role of a fake CBI officer. Though he has some limitations, he had succeeded to grab the attention. Suriya makes everyone emotional in his conversation with his father and then in his friend’s suicide episode. Keerthy Suresh didn’t get much space, although she looked beautiful in traditional attire. Ramya Krishna is other big asset of the film. She offered laughter in few scenes. Karthik who played special officer is good. RJ Balaji was funny. Thambi Ramaiah is decent as Suriya’s father. Other artists played their roles efficiently.
Vignesh Shivan rightly adopted story from Special 26. He did some homework to modify the script. Climax twist is mind-blowing. Dialogues are also decent. Dinesh Krishnan’s cinematography is definitely worth a special mention. Anirudh Ravichander provided intriguing back ground music, wherein songs are okay. Sreekar Prasad’s editing is sharp. Production values of Studio Green are high in standard.
Gang is far better movie compared to other outings for Sankranthi. However, the makers need to promote it vigorously.
