Pandaga Chesko Movie Review

on May 29, 2015

Hero Ram hasn't been hitting the bulls eye from a long time. As his recent ventures tasted quite bitter at Box Office, he is on a mission to score a hit. Joining hands with director Gopichand Malineni, Ram is now coming up with “Pandaga Chesko”. Let’s see how is the flick.

Pandaga Chesko Story:

Karthik (Ram) is an young businessman who lives in dollars and considers wealth is everything. He gets ready to tie knot with similar thinker Sweety (Sonal Chauhan). At the same time, Karthik’s factory in India messes up into trouble as Environmental activist Divya (Rakul Preet) fights against it. Karthik flies to India to get Divya under his grip but she hates him. When he saves her from goons foiling their kidnap bid, it’s revealed that Karthik came to India for Divya’s sake but not factory. What happens thereafter forms the crux of story.

EFFORTS:

On-Screen:

What makes Ram always a heartthrob are his energy levels. He breathes life into every character he attempts on silver screen, though sometimes we feel like his acting monotonous. Dances are his forte, while his looks are ultra stylish. Emotional scenes however pushed Ram little under the umbrella.

Rakul Preet and Sonal Chauhan took care of the glamour department, while their roles are those run-of-mill characters essayed many times earlier. However Sonal walked away with honours this time as her radiating glamorous charms blew our minds away.

All other leading character artists like Saikumar, Sampath, Pavitra Lokesh did their bit for the flick, while comedians like Vennela Kishore, 30 years Pruthvi and late MS Narayana brought the roof down sometimes. But Brahmi as Weekend Venkat Rao is little disappointment as his histrionics are not complimented well by the writing.

Off-Screen:

Gopichand Malineni proved his mettle as a director, but time and again he fails to bring that freshness on board. With Kona Venkat and Veligonda Srinivas being his backbone in writing department, it’s the same “Ready” genre “Loukyam” kind subject picked, a routine and safe fare.Surely, Gopichand is pushing himself into the web of convenience and conventions that affect him in the long run.

Composer SS Thaman is a big disappointment. Like the songs that failed to excite music lovers, so is the background score. Repetitive tunes are in discussion all these days, but Thaman is unwinding his fame by being repetitive in background score too.

Sameer Reddy, cinematographer, has however done decent job in bringing exciting visuals to silver screen. They are not just colourful, but added that richness to the flick.

The PLUSES:

Ram, Rakul, Sonal

Punch lines and comedy

Second half

The MINUSES:

Slow narration in first half

Routine and predictability

Songs

BREAKDOWN:

Director Gopichand Malineni, writer Kona Venkat have earlier confirmed that they are not here to make "Interstellar" kind of intelligent movies, but their films are those that make audiences laugh non-stop for 2 hours. Seems like they have stuck to their words very seriously.

If one doesn't expect nothing much than a simple laugh riot sans logic and believability, then Pandaga Chesko is the film for them. A hero trying to reunite two of his families that have got separated long back is a tried and tested formula. However, narration is what matters for such film with many funny bones. To an extent Ram and his director Gopichand Malineni succeeded in tapping that potential, but as some scenes remind of some past hits of same formulaic structure, it turns boring.

First half of the film is little slow as the foreign episode on hero is not so engaging. But pace builds as the scene shifts to India and MS Narayana, Vennela Kishore takes control from Ram. In the mean time, heroines enthral with their glamour. As usual, an interval twist marks the interval pushing the film into second act. As the film gets all of its star-cast into one place to entertain people, they have succeeded at times and bored sometimes. Certain stuff like parodies of hit punch dialogues and that spoof on Seethamma Vaakitlo movie worked to a large extent. But climax  is little weak as it has many shades of Attarintiki Daredi.

If audiences doesn't mind enjoying a routine comedy fare, though it reminds them of many hit flicks of same kind from the past, then Pandaga Chesko will have a decent run at box office. Stuffed with comedy, double entendres, glamour and squeezing sentiment will keep the film running, but predictability kills the whole experience. Success depends on how audiences like this routine fare.

Final Words: A one time watch if you have free time.

Rating: 2.5/5
