Twist to Pratyusha Murder case

In a latest twist in the Pratyusha Banerjee suicide case a 1,000 page chargesheet has been filed against Rahul Raj Singh on charges of abetment, assault and intimidation by the Bangur Nagar Police in Mumbai. Rahul, who was present in the court, along with his friend during the filing of the chargesheet by Bangur Nagar Police, personally received the chargesheet. He is currently out on anticipatory bail, but the court has instructed him to appear on July 30 for a hearing.

A case was earlier registered at the Bangur Nagar Police Station under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The chargesheet indicates that the Police has mostly relied on audio recordings of telephonic conversations between Rahul and Pratyusha.

The chargesheet also includes statements of witnesses, bank statements, call data records, forensic findings and hospital papers. Details of Pratyusha's income tax returns and a loan agreement from a friend, have been included in the chargesheet. The Bombay High Court on April 25 granted anticipatory bail to Rahul after observing that prima facie there was not enough evidence to show that the accused 'instigated or intended' the suicide. Pratyusha was found hanging in her Goregaon flat on April 1, 2016.
