Manchu Vishnu on Rowdy film

on Apr 4, 2014

We managed to grab some time and talk to Manchu Vishnu on the eve of his film Rowdy which released today, about acting with his father Mohan Babu in a totally different role and of course being directed by Ram Gopal Varma. He seemed quite excited and upbeat about the film Rowdy as we spoke to him in a brief tete-e -tete.

TeluguOne:   How was the experience acting in such an intense role in Rowdy?

M.Vishnu:    I have had immense pleasure and satisfaction working in this film .How the audience will respond will be known after the first show. I have been doing and known mostly for my comedy roles and as a Hero but this is the first time that I have acted in such an intense  and serious role and the credit of course goes to Ram Gopal Varma who managed to extract the best out me. This movie is one of the best films I have done so far…

TeluguOne:  What’s your father’s role like in the movie? He is constantly reinventing himself and his raw and rustic look has already created a buzz.

M.Vishnu:   I feel  the role of Annagaru will be one my father’s best role as an actor till date, though he may not agree with me  , but I think he looks deadly and  it is one of the best realistic performances he has given. He has done many versatile roles including Yamadonga and very soon you will see him in Yamaleela-2   and all I can say that his caliber as an actor keeps growing and I am one of his biggest fans.

TeluguOne:   This is your 3rd film with your father, how different was this role?

M.Vishnu:   In the previous 2 films I haven’t had too many scenes with him straight on. But in this movie I took it up as a challenge and as he had a very tough role to reprise where every dialogue of his is powerful, with one liners and this was a role that was right up his alley. Too stand in front of him and mouth my dialogues and match up to that kind of an expectation that he has set, was quite challenging.

TeluguOne:  Your first film with Ram Gopal Varma, how was it like working with him?

M.Vishnu:   Working with Ram Gopal Varma was one of the best experiences I had. I have met him before a couple of times but this was a different experience working with him as a director. He is amazing and his passion for movies is something I need to learn. In all these years he talks only about films, making movies and he is not interested about making money, it’s like he only breathes, eats and lives films. One of the most outstanding directors to work with whose only passion is to make extraordinary films.

TeluguOne:  Was the movie written with you and Mr Mohan Babu in mind?

M.Vishnu:    Yes the story was conceived with me and father in mind and my father fit the bill completely in this role. Ram Gopal Varma has the knack to pick the right people and talking about Sai Karthik the music director, he has done an excellent job with  the music and background score.

TeluguOne:  Do you think that the Rayalaseema faction based stories are still relevant in the current scenario?

M.Vishnu:   See, we are living in the cities and we can’t deny the fact that faction politics still exist and there are lots of  places not only in Rayalaseema  but in other parts of the state where you have  presence of the strong holds of these kind of factionalism. It still is prevalent.

On a  parting shot…

“I am pretty excited and for all the people who think we can’t make realistic and different Telugu movies , this film will be an answer to that. I have learnt a lot while acting in these movies and working with Ram Gopal Varma was an experience altogether , his passion for film making, his craftsmanship, sticking to what you believe in  and there is a lot more to learn from him” .Thank You.

With the reviews which have started pouring in and by the looks of it, Manchu Vishnu has all the reasons to smile about .
