Manam Movie Review

on May 22, 2014

Manam is one of the most awaited films not just for the audience but also for people from the film industry. Manam has finally released across the globe and here is an exclusive review by Telugu One on the movie Manam.

Story :

Manam is a mixture of past and present. Naga Chaitanya, Nagarjuna, Samantha and
Shriya portray two different variety of roles. The story starts off with Nagarjuna meeting
Naga Chaitanya and Samantha in two different places and getting reminded of his past. He puts in all his effort to bring the duo closer. While this track forms the first half of the film, the interval break comes in as a big twist marking the entry of Shriya and Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Second half comprises of Nageswara Rao's effort to bring Nagarjuna and Shriya into a love bond and the journey of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha. In all this, a past life is involved and there are two stories which creates the suspense. How things work between the two couple and what connection they have with the past and Nageswara Rao's role in between forms the rest of the film.

Analysis :

Manam is a family entertainer which runs with a lot of emotions and drama. Although the first half is quite slow, we can count on the second half. The movie might feel long but end of the day, we can be happy about seeing a new concept on screen. The film has been well-executed and Manam will remain one of it's kind.

Performances :

Nageswara Rao :

The legendary actor has played a short and significant role in the film. His entry towards the interval gets really heavy on any Telugu Movie Buff with a feel that this is the last time, one could see the man on screen. Apart from this, Nageswara Rao had done his best as an efficient and experienced actor. His cute little expressions and an innocent smile towards the second half is actually enough to make us miss him more.

Nagarjuna :

Nagarjuna did steal the show with his performance. His past and present life acting had been perfectly balanced and the actor carried it off really well throughout the film.

Naga Chaitanya :

Naga Chaitanya is present all through the film but his role is not as significant as Nagarjuna. He creates that youth feeling along with Samantha in the first half. Naga
Chaitanya did his bit in perfection is what we could say.

Samantha and Shriya :

Both these ladies added beauty to the entire screen. Samantha and Shriya had a good scope for performance and they ravished the show.

Technical Aspects :

Direction :

Director Vikram needs to be appreciated for bringing up a new concept like Manam and executing it so well. He made sure to extract the best from every artist in terms of
performance. Although, a little magic was missing for a film that involves three generations of the Akkineni clan, it gets compensated by the story itself.

Cinematography :

P S Vinod has done a wonderful job. He made sure to communicate a lot of expressions with the movement of his camera. The colors in every scene and the appearance of every artiste were captured in perfection. The locations and sets of Manam did feel real. The cinematographer had done a flawless job on Manam.

Music :

They say that a sound, music or a song should be there for a reason and Anup Rubens did justice to this concept. The background score is breathtaking and songs are soothing. The peppy number also blends really well with the flow of the film.

Plus Points :

1. Nagarjuna's performance
2. Nageswara Rao's short yet sweet role.
3. A different concept not experienced by Telugu Film Industry.
4. It is a film for people of all age groups

Negative Points :

1. The story could have been trimmed to make it more crisp.
2. The little magic was missing to make Manam, a picture perfect film.

Twist :

Climax sequence has a huge and unexpected surprise element for the audience. Not even a single clue will be given about it. People should watch the movie to know what it is !!!

Conclusion :

Manam is a wholesome family entertainer and a tribute to the Legendary Actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao. It is definitely worth a watch !!!

Rating : 3.5
