Nandamuri Kalyan Ram is not stopping experimenting, despite result of his films. MLA is a political drama film directed by debutante Upendra Madhav. Let’s see whether MLA provides break for Kalyan Ram…

Kalyan and his sister (Lasya) is thrown out as the former helps the latter getting married to her boyfriend. They go to Bengaluru where Kalyan’s brother-in-law (Vennela Kishore) works in a company. Kishore helps Kalyan joining the same office.

When the company is in a problem, Kalyan comes to aid Indu to resolve the problem. Later, Kalyan gets to know a shocking fact about Indu for whom he challenges local MLA (Ravi Kishan) to beat him in the election to become MLA. How he reaches the goal is rest of story…

Positives:
1. Second Half
2. Music

Negatives:
1. First Half
2. Regular Story
3. Loopholes In Script

Analysis:
MLA is not a unique film made as a commercial entertainer. The film focuses on protagonist played by Kalyan Ram and his character. Kalyan Ram is praised as a good human being (Manchi Lakshanalunna Abbai). He readies to leave his home as to assist his sister who marries her boyfriend. Meanwhile, he accidentally meets Kajal who later enters his workplace as MD. It was a regular track until here. Then, movie turns boring with Kalyan Ram making efforts to help his MD to protect their venture from a rowdy batch. The sketch penned by Kalyan Ram is impracticable. Movie comes to interval with a twist about Kajal. Story shifts to a rural area where he challenges local MLA Ravi Kishan. Kalyan Ram’s strategies to impress local public are nonsensical, but are humorous. Emotional touch is given to the script with subject of child labor and child suffering from silicosis. In fact, few section may enjoy few episodes in second half.

Artists Performances:

Kalyan Ram has played his role as a normal guy and politician quite proficiently. He didn’t go overboard and gave settled performance. Kajal Agarwal looked gorgeous as MD of company where Kalyan Ram is an employee. While she got enough space in first half, she makes entry in second half whenever there is need of song. Ravi Kishan is regular as MLA who loves Kajal to the core. Brahmanandam is also regular. Vennela Kishore provided laughs here and there. Posani Krishna Murali is good as a womanizer. Lasya is decent as Kalyan Ram’s sister. Other artists arte okay.

Technical Aspect:
Director Upendra Madhav earlier worked as a writer for movies like Srinu Vaitla directed movies such as Bruce Lee and Aagadu. In fact, first half of MLA is narrated in Srinu Vaitla mark, whereas the film has shades of Srimanthudu in second half. Not just story, there’s no uniqueness in screenplay as well. Dialogues are good in parts. Mani Sharma has provided melodious tunes and the song Yudham Yudham sounds like Dangal Dangal in the film Dangal. Mani’s music needed a little more essence. Cinematography by Prasad Murella is lavish. Editor Thammiraju should have trimmed few scenes in first half. Production values of Blue Planet Entertainments are top notch.

Verdict:
MLA is a regular commercial cinema with decent dose of entertainment. One section may enjoy the film a bit, whereas others may not like it. Box office chances are minimal.

TeluguOne Perspective:
