Delayed for nearly 2 years, finally Nitin's "Courier Boy Kalyan" has hit theatres today. The film has come out of many shackles and with Nitin himself stating that the content is up to date and though couple of years delayed it will be utter fresh. Let's see how this courier boy delivered the parcel.

The CONTENT:

There is this greedy doctor (Asutosh Rana) who researches on stem cells, thereby killing many pregnant women in the process. A ward boy gathers evidence against the doctor's illegal research and decides it to mail to social activist Satya Murthy (Nasser). In the mean time, Kalyan (Nitin) takes up the job of Courier Boy for his friend, before falling in love with a sales girl (Yami Gautham). And now, the courier sent by the ward boy against the doctor lans in Kalyan's hands and the villainous doctors start chasing Kalyan to stop him. Whether Kalyan exposes the parcel or loses it, is the rest of story.

The EFFORT:

On-Screen:

Nitin looks good and delivered nice performance. In romantic scenes, no doubt he looked the best, but action scenes remind you of that old Nitin during Drona and Aatadista days. Somehow intensity is missing in his role.

Heroine Yami Gautham looked glamorous, but never she had any meaningful role in the flick. After watching her in films like Vicky Donor, it's tough to digest this commercial side. Now we can understand why she didn't turned up for promotions. Villain Asutosh Rana looked good as usual, but there is no stellar performance from him. At the same time, Nasser looks okay, while Satyam Rajesh's comedy and Harshavardan's support act are good.

Off-Screen:

Director Premasai is formerly an actor and still he failed to get the best of his actors. Except Nitin, others didn't got properly etched roles too. Though some seniors like Nasser have put good efforts, they got dumped into mud due to director's inability. That's clearly evident. At the same time his blotched screenplay is the big minus.

Music directors have nothing to boast about, because neither Karthik's tunes nor Anup Rubens songs are interesting. We are amused why two composers have done the music? Sorry, there is third one too. Sandeep Chowta has scored the background music. No, it's not any saving grace for the film.

Other technicians have put in nice efforts, but due to bad script, the efforts look half-baked.

The PLUSES:

Nitin (comedy and romance)

Concept

The MINUSES:

Predictable scenes

Poor First half

No watertight screenplay

BREAKDOWN:

No doubt, no matter what director Premsai says, "Courier Boy Kalyan" is heavily inspired from Hollywood film "Premium Rush". If not that film, both Premasai and the Hollywood director have lifted the central theme from the novel "Ultimate Rush". And like in Hollywood, here also the movie failed to incite some excitement due to bad screenplay.

Movie starts on an interesting note in Romania, where the doctor (Asuthosh Rana) is seen experimenting on stem cells. Due to some legal issues after a patient threatens to sue the hospital, the doctor shifts to India. Well, for people linked with mafia, anywhere in the world will be fine. That's the first jolt we get. And then a Courier Boy comes into scene (Nitin) to explain us how a Courier company works despite all odds. Tipped as a best working guy in the world, this courier boy is projected as the only hard working person in the world, which sounds mediocre. Though Nitin and Yami's romance is fine, the songs actually disturb the flow. How come a courier boy will go daily to same Khadi Bhandar in the name of delivering courier? Nitin will go. And the medical crime, involving stem cells, gets in touch with this common man. Though the interval bang is simple, just before the interval the film falls on track. Now, everyone is expecting so many twists in the second half but those didn't worked. Because narration turned rather straight. Chase sequences have given that racy punch to the film, especially when Nitin comes to know about what's the content of courier. And then a routine climax ends the show.

While the interval bang reads, "Courier will be delivered after the break", the courier never gets delivered properly. Though the concept is good, as it is lifted from a Hollywood film, the additions made by director spoil the show. Though the director tried to avoid commercial formulas, still has fallen in the same groove most of times. As people don't know that it's Hollywood copy or not, the screenplay should have little tight. Otherwise, how come an international mafia don like doctor gets handled like a road side goon in the end? As the film looks flat and sloppy in taste, we've to see how audiences react to it.

Final words: Kalyan delivers boring courier

Rating: 2/5
