Mohanakrishna Indraganti is known for making concept-based films. Ami Thumi has been promoted as a hilarious entertainer. Let’s see whether the film has scope to perform at box office or not…
Story:
A big shot Gangadhar Rao (Tanikella Bharavi) has good respect for our traditions, so he warns his son (Srinivas Avasarala) and daughter Deepa (Esha) to marry persons of his choice. While Deepa has a love affair with a middle class man Ananth (Adivi Sesh), Srinivas adores Maya (Aditi) who is daughter of his dad’s enemy. Gangadhar Rao fixes Deepa’s marriage with Sri Chilipi (Vennela Kishore) whose only wish is to grab Gangadhar Rao’s property. A Vizag native Chilipi who hasn’t yet watched even photograph of Deepa meets the same girl in Hyderabad accidentally when he is on the way to Gangadhar Rao’s house. Deepa cooks up a story to escape marriage with Chilip and this leads to a big confusion. What’s the story? Who marries whom in the end?

Analysis:
We have seen Ami Thumi kind of confusing comedy films in the past. But, Indraganti made it look fresh with his beautiful writing in first half. However, the film turns boring in second half due to weak writing. Apparently, the director didn’t much worry about logics and believed hilarious writing would please audiences. Actually, real entertainment in the film starts after Vennela Kishore makes an entry. In fact, all the scenes he was appeared in were uproarious. The way Kishore was introduced as self-loving person was mirthful. The sequence where Kishore enters Esha’s room and shocked to see her maid there was one of the best parts. Kishore and Tanikella Bharani combination sequences were also side-splitting. Except for Kishore episodes, second of the film has nothing much to describe.
Artists Performances:
Vennela Kishore is real hero of the film. He steals the show with his comedy timing, one-liners, different slang with funny English phrases and elusive mannerisms. In fact, film pace increases ever since Vennela Kishore is introduces. Then, there is incessant comedy until interval. He continued to entertain in the second half as well. Lead actors Adivi Sesh, Avasarala Srinivas, Esha and Aditi Myakal got very less space. Though they shared scenes individually with Kishore, they were dominated completely by the comedian who gave next level performance. Tanikella Bharani was another big asset. He simply enjoyed his character. Artist Shyamala who played Esha’s maid and Aditi’s step-mom- both tormented with their over-action. The artist who played Kishore’s assistant was also funny. Other artists were okay.
Technical Aspect:
It is always a big challenge to pen script for films of the genre- confusing comedy. Balanced performance and tight screenplay will only give positive results. Even minor mistakes lead to complete opinion change. Mohanakrishna Indraganti penned some witty dialogues and especially he too extra care in designing Vennela Kishore’s character. However, other than Tanikella Bharani most of the other artists disappointed with ordinary performances. Actually, the director should have given adequate space to the lead actors as well. Mani Sharma’s music is one of the major highlights. While the audio is good, re-recording was extra-ordinary. The western theme music concept for Kishore was good. PG Vinda’s cinematography is vivid. Production values are decent.
Verdict:
Ami Thumi may please multiplex audiences, but it may not connect to mass audiences.
