With massive expectations, Rajnikanth’s movies “Kabali” & “Kaala” were released in the Telugu speaking states and both of them did not create a huge buzz in the box office. "2.0" was received well because of the visual effects & not solely because of Rajni’s charisma. So how is “Petta” going to be? Has it reached the fans expectations? Let us read the review:-
Kaali (Rajnikanth) goes to a college in Ooty to work as a warden with great recommendation. There he notices that Anwar falls in love with Anu. Kaali goes to Anu’s house to explain about their love & falls in love with Anu’s mother (Simran).
Both the love stories take off well & suddenly Anwar gets attacked. Who attacked Anwar? Why did the attack happen? How did Kaali expect that Anwar would be attacked? What is Kaali’s flashback? What is the relation between Kaali & Anwar? Answers to all these question forms the movie story!
“Do you think everything is over?” While such dialogue chases Rajni, Director Karthik Subbaraj says “No” and shows the audience the much awaited Rajnikanth’s action, speed & josh. Rajnikanth’s fans will expect and enjoy this from the Director. Rajnikanth has left no stone unturned to entertain his fans.
Since “Kabali” & “Kaala” had serious subjects, Rajni did not get any scope to exhibit his mannerisms. Rajni’s dialoge, “I am waiting for a right time & have not found one in last twenty years”, will bring goose bumps.
Though the story of the movie is not great, Rajnikanth has done his bit very well & entertained the audience.

Karthik Subbaraj’s Direction
Slow second half
Rajnikanth has acted in the movie as if he was 25 years younger. Rajni shines as Kaali & Petta in the movie with his heroism. His styling was perfect for the role. Simran & Trisha have less screen space. And they have done their bit well. Sasikumar can also been seen in the second half of the movie. Nawazuddin Siddiqui & Vijay Sethupathi have excelled in their characters. All the others have also done well.
Petta... By the Rajinikanth Fans, For the Rajinikanth Fans, Of the Rajinikanth Fans!
This movie will be a treat for all the Rajnikanth fans & has been directed for his fans. But if you expect a fresh story, you will be disappointed. And normal audience might not like the movie.
