Akshayatrithiya

Akshaya Thritiya is a day celebrated with a difference from other festivals like Dussehra and Diwali. The name Akshaya Thritiya is a compound name derived from the combination of two words Akshaya and Thritiya. The word Akshaya, a Sanskrit word, literally means one that never diminishes, and the day is believed to bring good luck and success. .. Akshaya Tritiya day is the very auspicious day - there's no inauspiciousness to be found today so even checking muhurthas is considered unnecessary, so auspicious it is.

Akshaya tritiya falls on the third lunar day from Amavayasya(new moon) which occurs during the suklapaksha month of Vaishaka. The special fasts and feasts of the vaisaka month begins with Akshaya Tritiya. The reason for this day to be auspicious is the position of Sun and Moon on that particular day. Every year, Akshaya tritiya falls between April 14th and May 14th.

If we are to go through the astrological state of the day- Sun will be in Aries which is in exalted position and Moon in Taurus which is also in exalted position. As the Sun, the lord of the planets and the Moon the lord of creativity(sense) are exalted, the day is considered to be an auspicious day in India. If the tritiya day falls on a wednesday or Friday when moon is in Rohini or 4th constellation, the day becomes specially sacred. This year Akshaya Tritiya falls on 20th April 2007 on Friday.

Both Shiva and Vishnu are worshipped on this day. Some perform special homams like Lakshmi Homam on this day. At Puri they celebrate Candanotsavam for Lord Jagannath.

Akshaya Thritiya
has great significance. It is said that on this day, the Treta yuga had its beginning and the great sage Parasuram, the sixth incarnation of Maha Vishnu was born. The main legend is from Mahabharata. When Pandavas were in exile, Lord Krishna gave Draupadi a bowl called the Akshaya Pathram. The word Akshaya means that which never diminishes and this bowl is said to have given infinite food to the Pandavas. This is why this day is considered to be a good time to bring home Goddess Lakshmi, in any form, gold, silver or platinum.

Valuables that are acquired on this day are said to be replenished endlessly. On the day people throng jewelry shops for purchase under the notion that they would be bestowed with all the benefits of material plane. As gold is considered very auspicious and safest investment, people in India buy gold on AkshayaTtritiya.

The legend states that any venture initiated on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya shall continue to grow and bring prosperity. Hence, it is normal to see many of the new ventures, like starting a business, ground breaking for construction etc on the Akshaya Tritiya Day. With the mass media and marketing, this day has been taken over by marketeers to promote sales and bookings for Gold jewellery, houses, consumer electronics.

Let's explore

Main word Akshaya derived from sanskrit litertally means that one never diminishes...Thritiya means the third day in the lunar month. If we are to go through the astrological state of the day- Sun will be in Aries which is in exalted position and Moon in Taurus which is also in exalted position. Scientific Approach:

Our Indian traditions formed ages ago and they take in all universal aspects and their impact on us (human beings). Thus born were the formations of almanac after the birth of a boy or a girl.  Sun and moon’s positions are particularly taken into account to calculate the merits or demerits of the almanac. Sun is the life supporter and moon has maximum impact on the blood pressure of a person.
It is a scientifically proved fact that planets and stars have their magnetic effect on the living things on earth. Solar and lunar eclipses have negative effects on earth and its inhabitants. Sun spots cause El nino effect in the oceans and it results in the decreased rainfall in the Indian sub-continent. Moon’s effect on human beings mind is well known since ages.

When these two factors –sun and moon are filled with positive energy, it will have double positive effect on our mind. A person with bright health and mind could take right decision. Thus form the idea of investment in gold, precious jewels and property dealings on this particular day.
Akshaya Thritiya falls on the immediate beginning of the financial year in the month of April. Commercial fraternity would have declared their profits or losses. Firstly, surplus in the form of assets is more durable than in the form of currency. Secondly, there will be an increased flow of wealth in the society if there is an increase in the commercial activity like sales and bargains. Further, nothing impresses a lady than gold and jewelry.
Thus, all the cosmic and commercial positives might have lead to the undeminishing positive flow of wealth in the society in the name of Akshaya Thritiya .
