Hong Kong Ugadi Vedukalu 2012

Hong Kong is a small cosmopolitan island with a population of 7.07 million with different Nationalities. With an increase from pre-war period, now there are nearly more than 20,000 Indians in Hong Kong (2006 by-census). All Indians celebrate the major festivals like Diwali and Regional New year’s, Dussera, Holi and Ganesh Chaturdhi. The Hong Kong Telugu Samakhya (THKTS) has also grown eventually from 50 families to more than 150 families. The uniqueness of THKTS, is that it is not governed by any Organisation / Committee members. It’s For all Telugu people, By Telugu people and To All Telugu people!!

THKTS celebrates Telugu New Year in a very traditional way. This year too, Ugadi was celebrated on April 28, 2012 with “Ugadi Pacchadi“ and traditional Andhra dinner. Even with Heavy Rain forecast, all the members participated joyously with great passion and had a wonderful evening with beautiful Classical Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam, and Traditional Andhra Folk dance. There were melodious Annamacharya keertanas sung by young Telugu Ammayilu. After all these Classical performances…the floor was turned into vibrant Antakshari podium by Hari Eranki. Beautiful Kuchipudi dance “Gandhamu puyyaruga“ was performed by Sahiti Peesapaty, Rajitha Reniguntla, Sathvika Kalidindi, Sai Keertana Sure, Nikitha Attaluri - students of Master Eranki Sri Hari Baladitya. Rhythamic and colourful Indian Dance - “Ti Ti Teeyani” from Movie: Donga Donga, was performed by Amy Chan, Christina Tsai, Jackie Law, Joyce Yap, Susanna Chu of Hari Om Dance Society. Graceful Bharatnatyam dance by Master Praveen Pootharla students – “Bho Shambo“ was performed by Fanny Chan, Joanne Kwok, Joanne Wong, Toby Chu,Yuki Leung with brilliant bhavam and abhinayam!

The speciality of Hong Kong Telugu Samakhya is that our Telugu Dance Masters teach their dance forms like Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam and Indian Dance to Chinese students. Chinese students are very passionate about learning our Culture, Traditions and Language too! All the audience were taken by surprise when Ms. Fandy Mok spoke in Telugu thanking her Guru’s and sang sweetly - Annamayya keertana “ Muddugare Yashoda “. It was a pleasure watching little girls perform Telugu Folk dance “OLLARIMAMO SWAMILO RANGA” by Durbhaka Saanvi, Bombay Susanna, Ampajalam Sai Avanthika, Uppu Sneha and Bombay Sanjana. We could listen to melodious Annamacharya keertana’s by little Ampajalam Avanthika – Uppu Sneha and Sree Nidhi Wupadrasta. There were some light musical numbers sung by Smt. Bombay Satyavani, Sri. Bharani Krishna Sure, Duet by Smt.Shanti Moganti & Sri. Syam Kumar Ampajalam.

Beautiful semi-classical Kathak dance was performed by little girls Sainag Aditi, Ananya Jain, Ajunee Simreet Kaur Khangura dressed in colourful costumes. THKTS Founder Smt. Jaya Peesapaty expressed her heart felt thanks to all the attendees and participants. On this note she mentioned that though THKTS is not run by any formal Committee, yet its members showed solidarity and compassion towards building THKTS from big to bigge
