Sinuses are air filled spaces present in the head region. There are four such spaces frontal, ethmoid, maxillary and sphenoid sinuses. In normal individuals these are lined by epithelium and filled with air. When these are infected, they may present either as thickened epithelium or completely blocked with fluid.
The conditions that may be responsible for sinusitis are: Common cold or any upper respiratory tract infections. Any allergies or the smoke and the environment are the least known causes. Structural deformities like deviated nasal septum or nasal polyps. Depleted immune systems especially those on immunosuppressant drugs. In children most common cause is drinking in lying down position or due to illnesses from other kids.
Acute sinusitis is the one with duration less than 12weeks presents with, runny nose, loss of smell, congestion, facial pain, bad breath and sometimes even dental pain. While the presentation of chronic sinusitis rather quiet, runny nose, nasal discharge, headache, fever and nasal blockade.
The treatment usually consists of antibiotics for the infection, sometimes steroids are also prescribed. In case of allergies anti-histaminic drugs are given. For simple sinus blockade, decongestants suffice. Along with these, we need to keep away from know allergens, warm inhalations and warm compresses for easing pain. Maintaining good hygiene during cold and flu seasons care possibly reduce the number of attacks. If neglected the infection may creep up causing meningitis, brain abscess and even invade the bone.
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. The plantar fascia is the flat band of tissue (ligament) that connects your heel bone to your toes. It supports the arch of your foot. If you strain your plantar fascia, it gets weak, swollen, and irritated (inflamed). Then your heel or the bottom of your foot hurts when you stand or walk. Plantar fasciitis is common in middle-aged people. It also occurs in younger people who are on their feet a lot, like athletes or soldiers. It can happen in one foot or both feet. You begin to notice it when you put your firststep down after you wake up from the bed also. Plantar fasciitis is caused by straining the ligament that supports your arch. Repeated strain can cause tiny tears in the ligament. These can lead to pain and swelling.
This is more likely to happen if:
• Your feet roll inward too much when you walk
• You have high arches or flat feet.
• You walk, stand, or run for long periods of time, especially on hard surfaces.
• You are overweight.
• You wear shoes that don't fit well or are worn out.
• You have tight Achilles tendons or calf muscles.
Most people with plantar fasciitis have pain when they take their first steps after they get out of bed or sit for a long time. You may have less stiffness and pain after you take a few steps. But your foot may hurt more as the day goes on. It may hurt the most when you climb stairs or after you stand for a long time.
Your doctor will check your feet and watch you stand and walk. He or she will also ask questions about:
• Your past health, including what illnesses or injuries you have had.
• Your symptoms, such as where the pain is and what time of day your foot hurts most.
• How active you are and what types of physical activity you do.
Your doctor may take an X-ray of your foot if he or she suspects a problem with the bones of your foot, such as a stress fracture.
No single treatment works best for everyone with plantar fasciitis. But there are many things you can try to help your foot get better:
• Give your feet a rest. Cut back on activities that make your foot hurt. Try not to walk or run on hard surfaces.
• To reduce pain and swelling, try putting ice on your heel. Or take an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen (such as Advil or Motrin), naproxen (such asAleve), or aspirin.
• Do toe stretches , calf stretches and towel stretches several times a day, especially when you first get up in the morning. (For towel stretches, you pull on both ends of a rolled towel that you place under the ball of your foot.)
• Get a new pair of shoes. Pick shoes with good arch support and a cushioned sole. Or try heel cups or shoe inserts (orthotics ). Use them in both shoes, even if only one foot hurts.
If these treatments do not help, your doctor may give you splints that you wear at night, shots of steroid medicine in your heel, or other treatments. You probably will not need surgery. Doctors only suggest it for people who still have pain after trying other treatments for 6 to 12 months.

Well! Just Imagine that you have got an entry into most famous Royal family in the world. Do you feel that it would be an exciting experience? You have to think again after reading this. The members of British Royal Family were strictly prohibited to taste some food items for the fear of inviting illness. Here are a few from the list....
Shell Fish could be a mouth watering item on the menu of every country that has a shore. But the members of royal family are not allowed to touch. It’s due to the fear that Shell Fish might get contaminated as they come from water and stored for a while before cooking. Any slight mistake in their handling and cooking could also make them poisonous. So the family is not allowed to eat any kind of shell fish such as Lobsters, prawns and crabs.
Queen Elizabeth is said to have particular hatred for Garlic. Garlic is prohibited from her kitchen in Buckingham Palace and no member of the family is allowed to eat the foods prepared with Garlic. This rule is followed even when the members get out from the palace on a tour. Garlic though considered as a miracle drug in our kitchen is not welcomed by the British family due to its strong odour.
Rare Meat is a tender meat that’s cooked for a long time. This is an important part in the Middle East and South Asian cuisine. However this delicious tasting food is prohibited by the Royal Family on their tour. Reason! Meat is very easily prone to contamination which could result in food poisoning. It could even result in diseases such as Salmonella which could lead to death.
Most of the diseases in the world come through the contaminated water. Safe drinking water has always been a problem to many countries. And of course the Royal Family is aware of this. It is the reason why, the members of Royal Family are allowed to drink only packaged water that usually accompanies them.
The cuisine in countries such as India would be heavily spiced up. But these could have devastating effect on foreigners who are accustomed to smooth and soft dishes which are less exotic. British Royal Family too has the habit of eating foods which are less spicy. They would follow the rule even during their world tours.

Liver is nothing but a processing machine that removes the toxins from your body and protects the nutrients that are helpful for us. It’s often considered as most vital part even than heart. However, we always try to tease and test our liver with our ugly habits. Our fast foods, sedentary lifestyle, smoking and drinking would all create havoc inside the liver. The Liver would then start developing problems such as Fatty liver and Liver Cirrhosis. However here is some good news... Liver is such rare organ which can cure by itself if you give enough support. Here are some foods that would help liver to cleanse itself...
Green leafy vegetables are expected to work wonders for the liver. Leafy vegetables contain all the essential vitamins such as A, B, C and K. Besides they are high in minerals like Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Potassium. And here is much better news for the liver. Leafy Vegetables contain Chlorophyll that helps a lot to purify the blood and make the work of liver much easier.
Garlic is often termed as miracle drug that’s present in every Indian kitchen. Have you ever wondered why it smells so strong? The Sulphur present in Garlic is the answer! Obviously the same Sulphur is capable of activating liver enzymes. A mineral present in Garlic called selenium also works as natural detoxifying mineral.
Ever thought why Tomatoes are red? That’s because of a bright red chemical called lycopene. A research has proved that Lycopene is useful in detoxifying liver. It is also believed that Lycopene could even cure the liver cancer. However all the red vegetable doesn’t have the chemical! Only a few such as Tomatoes, red carrots and papaya contains them.
You might be surprised to find this innocent looking vegetable on the list. But nutritionists assure us that Cabbage is one of the great foods available to us. The Phytonutrients present in cabbage would help the body to remove the toxic chemicals including pesticides and drugs. Even Cauliflower and Radish would have the same effect on our body.
Turmeric is considered as one of the most powerful drug in Indian medicine. Try adding a bit of pure turmeric to your dishes to get your liver detoxified. Turmeric has anti inflammatory properties that would help in Liver Cirrhosis. It also reduces the accumulation of cholesterol in liver.
Other foods such as beetroot, citrus fruits, apples, millets... would also help in detoxifying the liver. Just try them folks.
The thought of getting back home and doing all the household chores is my biggest nightmare! How many of you feel the same? Almost all of us feel the same – Right? About 40 – 43% of workers report feeling tired after work. Let us try to decode this nightmare of low energy or feeling fatigued. Too little sleep and too much stress are the two major reasons for this says a research. The irony is that, the cycle only drags down your overall productivity, your health and happiness. Want more energy – Here are some things which I have started doing and hope it helps all of you too.
“It’s always YOU first” – Be Good to Yourself!
We generally tend to take too much stress, saying yes to everyone – just to maintain cordial relations with our colleagues and later scrambling around to get it all done at the right time. It's hard not to be exhausted when you put yourself in that position. I have to remind myself that my to-do list is arbitrary and sometimes, rest needs to be bumped to the top.
Good Food for energy
I have often heard my friends discussing – skip food to lose weight, but remember blood sugar levels greatly affect energy levels. So, if your energy is draining after work, chances are you haven't fueled yourself properly during the day. The best fuel comes from whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Eat a healthy breakfast, pack a lunch, and bring nutritious snacks to fight the drowsy afternoon crash. If your blood sugar's stable, your energy levels will be more stable.
Not only your Smartphone – But your body also needs to be reset!
If you are sleep deprived, a short nap can significantly improve your energy levels — and help you pay back some of the sleep debt you've been accumulating. I say a short nap because while it may be tempting to pass out for hours, instead of feeling energized you will end up becoming a zombie. In other words, it'll make you feel more tired. A study by NASA has found out that the ideal nap time for improving alertness and energy was 20 to 25 minutes. (While pondering over this point I remembered my colleague who used to tell me this – and I used to end up laughing. Today I have realized she was right)
It’s not the computer – But your Brain needs to be turned off!
When you feel exhausted, the word exercise seems like a punishment, isn’t it? Most of us in the recent times work in front of the computer where we use only our muscles all throughout the day typing emails, answering the telephone and sometimes turning your head to gaze longingly out the window thinking when will I go out of this work place. If you feel tired, that means the chances are that your brain is fatigued and not your body. So next time when you feel fatigued, turn off your brain, and do something that gets your blood pumping. It'll energize you immediately, and also improve your health and help you sleep better.
Stop high Caffeine intake!
Don’t worry – I will not tell you to cut caffeine out entirely since I am a caffeine addict too and all of us are aware that moderate caffeine intake can help you live longer. Excess intake of caffeine will surely help you in being awake but over a period of time it can cause insomnia, restlessness, irritability and upset your stomach. So next time onwards, when you are going to rely on coffee to complete your work remember these points.
These suggestions seems very simple right? Yes – they surely are but changing habits is hard, even when we want to. Try incorporating these changing slowly and you will surely agree that it’s not the body that is fatigued but the brain is fatigued.
If you could relate yourself with these points – do not forget to comment below and let me know that even you are my companion in feeling fatigued and running out of energy.
