The State of Andhra Pradesh, which has topped the ranking in Ease of Doing Business followed by Maharashtra and Delhi, last year, now, reportedly losing its rank, follwoing the political turmoil in the State. In fact, a team of researchers led by Dr Tan Khee Giap, co-director, Asia competitiveness institute (ACI), Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, have announced the 2018 Ease of Doing Business Index Attractiveness to investors, business friendliness, competitiveness policies (ABC) rankings, in the month of January, last year at Amaravati, in the presence of the then Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. As per the ACI’s EDB index, Andhra Pradesh got first rank in 2018. Emphasising the importance of leadership, Tan recognised Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s dynamic leadership and relentless efforts in shaping a vision for the new sun rise state of Andhra Pradesh. In fact, Naidu also told then in the capacity of Chief Minister that international investors look for stable govt with strong policies before coming forward for investments. Expressing happiness over National university of Singpore ranking Andhra Pradesh as Number in Ease of Doing Business, he has termed it as one more prestigious recognition for the state. quoting Naidu's words that- `we have to meet the expectations of foreign investors’, a senior IAS officer said that several global reseacrh Institutes are not ready to take up any research work, as ease of doing business in AP, has become a myth.
In fact, the Singapore institute also suggested the areas for improvement needed for state of Andhra Pradesh. The report mentioned that despite of AP’s excellent performance in ACI’s EDB index, the govt needs to bridge numerous institutional and infrastructural gaps in order to sustain its position in the future. The ACI team highlighted that there is sufficient room for improvement in sub environments such as facilitating business operations and infrastructure resilience and market potential. Among others workers density, foreign direct investment per capital, labour productivity, illiteracy rate were identified as weakest indicators for the state. The ACI team emphasised that an analysis at the indicator level will help identify specific areas of improvement.. The report will provide recommendations on how AP can leverage on its strengths to overcome its weaknesses and sustain its position in the years to come.
It may be noted that the Asia competitiveness Institute at Lee Kuan Yew school of public policy, national university of Singapore was established as a research centre in 2006 and aims to build the intellectual leadership and network for understanding and developing competitiveness in Asia region. Quoting the ACI's observations, the senior IAS officer said that in the given scenario in Andhra Pradesh, no global investor is ready to venture any innovative project.
Farmers from Guntur, the present Capital region area, known for their industrious and intellectual farming skills are now fighting for the wrong reasons. Having high standards of entrepreneurship in agriculture sector, they have conveniently forgotten to demand rightful share, from the Chandrababu Naidu led TDP Government. In fact, the Amaravati Capital region farmers have given away 33,000 acres of land, for the purpose of constructing a world class Capital, and, however, have conveniently forgotten to seek a SEZ, related to agri products processing, or an Information Technology SEZ, within the Core Capital region, i.e. in and around Velagapudi Secretariat.
Analyzing the same, senior data scientist Sekhar Dama, has suggested to look at the Madhya Pradesh and Kerala examples. “Madhya Pradesh has five operational SEZs, where in four SEZs are located in Indore. Though Bhopal is Capital, the State Government, in anticipation of decentralized development, opted Indore, and accordingly four SEZs are operational there now,” he elaborated and added that same kind of decentralization can be seen in Kerala. “Out of the 19 SEZs in operation in Kerala, 9 SEZs are located in Ernakulam district, which are away from the State Capital Thiruvanathapuram,” Sekhar Dama said and added that the same way Andhra Pradesh has total 27 notified SEZs, out of which 20 are operational SEZs, as per the information updated on 14th November, this year, according to sezindia.nic.in.
Elaborating the same, Sekhar Dama said that Visakhapatnam has 7 operationalized SEZs, out of the 9 notified, similarly, East Godavari has three, Krishna, Prakasham and Srikakulam districts have one SEZ each, Nellore has 5, and Chittoor has 2 operationalized SEZs. “Kurnool and Guntur districts, have so far no single SEZ,” Sekhar Dama said and has suggested to the farming community to exert pressure over the Government, to allot a SEZ in Guntur district, that too, in the Core Capital region of Amaravati.
Guntur district, the present Capital region of Andhra Pradesh, has 404 cold storages, and it may be noted that the 14 States, and 8 Union territories even didn’t cross this Guntur distrit’s figure in cold storages, Sekhar Dama said and urged the farmers of the Guntur district, to look at the strength of the district. “Why can’t you fight for a right cause like demanding for a food processing SEZ or an Information Technology SEZ,” he asked and advised them to showcase their strength in a right way. “ I urge the farmers of 29 villages to exert pressure over the State Government, to transform the lands given away to the Government, for Capital, into an unique SEZ meant for agri products processing, which in turn yield monetary benefits to the region, in both ways,” data scientist Sekhar Dama explained. “Leave the Capital demand for Amaravati. Instead, you can develop real estate as well claim employment opportunities in this region, even though Capital is shifted to Visakhapatnam,” Sekhar Dama suggested. “Give up blaming Naidu or Jagan. Stand up and fight for the right cause,” he has suggested to them and also urged the Government to consider his views in addressing the issue in an amicable way.
Mission: To utilize the human potential of India to make India a developed country (Economical and Humanity) and make this world a better place.
Vision: To make every Indian as problem solvers rather than problem cribbers.
India’s population will overtake China’s by 2028. India is the youngest country in the world with more than 65 percent population under 35 years of age. India’s population is a threat as well as an opportunity.
Threat is when we are unable to create jobs to this huge youth population, the same youth will hit the roads and create chaos because they are not engaged in any work. Sadly, there are already a significant number of youngsters who have already taken up these activities on a regular basis.
These are some of the effects if we don’t solve the problem of unemployment:
1) Political instability. 2) Civil unrest. 3) Exploitation of labour. 4) Industrial disputes. 5) Social problems. 6) Increase in poverty. 7) Loss of human resources. 8) Diversion of interests to easy money & crimes. 9) Migration of population to foreign countries.
Opportunity is when we are able to create jobs to such huge population, India’s rise as a super power and developed country is just a formality as majority of population is engaged in some kind of meaningful work.
How we can create jobs?
The only way by which we create jobs is by putting seeds of ideas in minds of our youth and children.
The people’s president Dr. Kalam famously said, “The ignited soul compared to any resource is the most powerful resource on the earth, above the earth and under the earth”
The missile man has emphasized on the utilization of human potential for bolstering India’s development. Dr. Kalam represents a powerful Idea called as ‘DEVELOPED INDIA’. He envisaged Vision 2020. For him, developed India was not only about economic development but also about human values development.
Can we achieve his vision 2020?
It has already been 70+ years since independence and we are still miles away from being developed. India is blessed with abundant human resources. If we can tap these human resources for ideation, development will be an eventuality.
Development is two-way exercise and is only possible if people actively reciprocate to the efforts put on to them by the government. Unfortunately, we still see people not reciprocating to the one of the finest initiatives ‘SWATCH BHARAT’. We still see people spitting and throwing litter on the roads.
Then, how we can develop India?
The thought of ‘IDEATION FOR DEVELOPMENT’ must be imbibed into the minds of people. Most people are looking for freebies in spite of having the capacity to come out of their distress through ideation. For a population whose mind is blunted by populism, the only saviour evident to them is the government. This thinking is prevailing in the majority of Indian Population.
We request for your support on declaration of Dr. Kalam’s birthday (15th October) as ‘NATIONAL IDEATION DAY’. It will be a fitting tribute to this great man whose life was dedicated to the development of India.
This declaration will create massive impact in this country. This single day will give a window to the people to think about the solutions through ideation about the problems in this country. This will pave a path for the shift from Populism to Self-Reliance.
Few points on 'NATIONAL IDEATION DAY'
1) This idea will enable people to realize the power of ideation giving them self-belief that they can solve their own problems.
2) Schools, colleges, universities, and communities will participate and ideate the whole day which eventually brings out millions of ideas on that single day.
3) It will inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship that will be pivotal for job creation.
4) Rewards and support can be given to the people sustaining their idea for more than a year.
5) Corporate, NGOs, and other social organizations can come up with workshops to encourage ideation among people.
6) Village panchayats can collaborate with the ideation teams & help bring out simple & economic ideas of the villagers on developing their localities.
7) Social media platforms can create a path for putting in new ideas, steps for economic schemes & promoting patents of individuals.
8) Skill development centres can help in raising the number of voluntary members regarding ideation & its sessions.
Let the Kalam’s dream percolate to every nook and corner of this country through this ‘NATIONAL IDEATION DAY’.
Declaration of this day will change the course of our history, inspiring numerous people to create wonders with their ideas and script the story of developed India.
How NID works:
1)First the formal declaration of National Ideation day will make people to think about the concept of ‘National Ideation Day’ and how they can contribute their thinking for self and society development. We need to sprout the thinking in minds of people that their mind has potential to come up with ideas that can be useful and relevant. Declaration of National Ideation day will pave path to such thinking that will lay foundation for developed India that Dr.Kalam and majority of people dream of.
2) Involvement of Government machinery to communicate, allocate funds, and celebrate ‘National Ideation Day’ in all schools, colleges, universities and other relevant institutions in all across India.
3) Encouraging corporate to conduct ideation sessions in their campuses, schools and colleges.
4) Government can also declare rewards for the best ideas from each district to encourage people from all districts to participate in this Idea festival. Best ideas can also be given assistance from the government. The best idea rewards can also be declared in national, state, district, city, town, village, area, street, etc. level. The main purpose is to maximize the participation through rewards.
5) The problems that people can solve might be divided into different levels. It might be a local problem, state problem, national problem or international problem. Ideator can select any problem that he/she wants to solve
6) Bureaucrats, MLAs, MPs, Sarpanches, and other relevant public servants can conduct ideathons in their respective places. They can give relevant problems that the respective places are facing and can get solutions to those problems.
7) For state level, MLAs can discuss and come up with relevant problems that can be ideated upon by the people in the assembly. Those problems can be given to the public to come up with solutions. It applies the same to the country where Mps can discuss the problems that can be given to the public in the parliament and they can give those problems to get solutions from the public.

Let’s build our nation through ideation.

The parents of some students from Bangalore were shocked when they looked into the text book of their children. The text book named ‘Current School Essays and Letters’ by Purabi Chakraborty has a controversial chapter named `Modern Girl’. Well if you are wondering why this chapter has become controversial, have a look at some of the statement mentioned in the chapter- “a modern girl is a self-centred creature than a loving daughter or sympathetic sister... She loves to wear jeans, pants and hot pants. The colourful saree has no place in the modern girl’s stock of garments.”
“She is eager to enjoy life fully and so she does not want to miss any party, cinema show, concert, fashion parades and such outdoor activities. She talks and makes friendship with boys freely and easily.” The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had to step into the scene and issue a warning to the schools to be careful while selecting text books for the students.
The flash floods in Kerala have caused a devastation that could only occur once in a hundred years. Hundreds of people have lost their lives and property worth thousands of crores has been destroyed. However here is an interesting allegation from Kerala. The state has filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court claiming that Tamil Nadu is solely responsible for these flash floods. It accused that sudden release of flood waters from the Mullaperiyar dam was a cause for the floods in the State. Kerala has further alleged that their neighbouring state has ignored their continuous requests to release the water in a step by step process. However, Tamil Nadu has denied these allegations and said that they have given enough warnings to Kerala regarding the release of water.
Well! All these days we have a feeling that Andhra Pradesh has suffered a huge loss of bifurcation of the state. Nothing has gone in the favour of the new state since four years. But now... here is a reason for the people in AP to have a broad smile. The Mines and Geology department has found a huge treasure in Chigargunta and Bisanatham areas of Chittoor district. The government officials have estimated that 1.83 metric tonnes of gold ore is present in the area and 9.4 tonnes of gold can be produced from the ore. The government might grab more than thousand crores by auctioning the ore. And that’s not the end of the news. The government is planning to revive defunct gold mines present in Anantapur district.
India has achieved an exceptional record in the ongoing Asian Games. Rahi Sarnobat has become the first Indian woman to grab a gold medal in the 67 year old history of Asian Games. However the achievement of Rahi was not surprising looking at her past. She has already bagged two gold medals at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games and a bronze in the 25m pistol pairs event at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. She is also the sixth Indian to shoot gold in the Asian games. India now stands at the 7th position with 4 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze medals. And there are many more events yet to come which could shower medals to Indian athletes.
Humanity would certainly show up from unexpected parts when a calamity occurs. Here is an example for that. A temple hall in Kochukadavu village of Thrissur district was offered for Eid prayers during the holy festival of Bakrid. Around 200 Muslim devotees entered the temple hall and participated in the prayers as the nearby mosque at Kochukadavu still remained in flood waters. The temple hall was also serving as the relief camp for the people of Kochukavdu and nearby Kuzhur village as well. However this is not only the isolated incident of communal harmony in Kerala. A mosque in Malappuram district has provided shelter and food to neighbouring Hindu families.
The leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi hugging Narendra Modi has become more than viral in the nation. It paved way to several debates and memes. Some awfully criticised the gesture while some applauded it. Not it’s time for Rahul Gandhi to give some explanation regarding his surprising action. ``When the prime minister was making sort of hateful remarks at me, I was feeling that I needed to go and give him a hug and tell him that world is not such a bad place and it is not all evil out there,” said Mr. Gandhi during a recent interaction. However he said that even some of his party members didn’t like his conduct. ``Some of them didn’t like it. Some of them told me later that you should not have hugged him.” Well one may like it or not like it... it’s all a part of the history now!
India has been surging ahead in the ongoing Asian games in Jakarta. By the end of fourth day it grabbed the 7th position with 10 medals in its bag. Altogether our players have grabbed three gold, three silver and four bronze medals and made a reasonably good start. Vinesh Phogat created history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at the Asian Games. She grabbed the gold in 50 kg category. If you are wondering who Vinesh Phogat is.... let us remind you that she is none other than the cousin sister of Geetha Phogat and Babita kumara whose life you have witnessed in the movie Dangal.
The safety of women is no more a reality. It’s almost a myth. Read this news if you still believe that women in our country are in safe hands. A 19 year old youth was found dead near the railway tracks in Bhojpur District. Some friends of the deceased suspected a woman to the culprit behind the death... and that’s it! The mob started vandalising the town and went straight to the residence of the suspect. They thrashed her, ripped her clothes off and paraded her in public. And as you can guess... no one stepped forward to help her. The police had to open fire to disperse the mob and take the woman in to custody. Opposition leaders criticized the Nitish Kumar government for the alleged surge in crime against women in Bihar.
Keralites have always been an integral part of United Arab Emirates. Most of the people from Kerala migrate to those countries for livelihood. This is perhaps the reason behind the decision by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi to donate 700 crore rupees as relief to the ongoing flood situation in Kerala. However it is interesting to note that India has not been accepting any relief from foreign countries since 2014. The government of India is of the opinion that it is capable of tackling adverse situation single handily. But the present situation seems to be too hot to handle as there were reports that the damages in Kerala are worth more than 20,000 crores!!! So, it would now be interesting to watch whether the government would accept this huge sum which is certainly hard to ignore.
Don’t worry! This news is from our neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. The Directorate of Collegiate Education (DCE) in Tamil Nadu has issued a circular asking all colleges to ban use of cellphones by students on the premises of the institutions. Here is a peculiar reason behind it. According to one of the official responsible for the notification - “In co-education colleges, we have received complaints that boys were taking videos and pictures of girl students. Mobile phones are also occasionally used for malpractices during examinations.” So get ready folks! Even the Telangana and AP government could take a cue from this decision to impart a ban in our colleges too!
