Will BJP have its TRAI way?

With a major uproar in the Lok Sabha over Modi’s Government move to push Nripendra Mishra’s appointment  and who was recently appointed as Narendra Modi's Principal Secretary after President Pranab Mukherjee signed an ordinance that amended Section 5 (8) of the Trai Act of 1997 that barred any member of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) from holding a subsequent government position. With Mishra, a 1967 batch IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre, has served in many departments including TRAI as its Chairman in 2006,worked as the Telecom Secretary under former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran in UPA-1 government led by Congress.  Now why the Congress had earlier questioned the decision of the NDA government to promulgate an Ordinance to facilitate the appointment is still debated. But with the man who has considerable knowledge and would be of great use in the TRAI and this move by the BJP in pushing for his appointment will surely have their way. Now the real test lies in the Rajya Sabha where the Congress numbers are more and for the Bill to be amended needs to be seen.
