22 July Telangana Bandh Passed Off Peacefully

Barring few incidents of violence, the day-long bandh called by the Telangana political Joint Action Committee, has passed off peacefully. More than 600 protesters were on Friday taken into preventive custody in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh for staging protests.

According to Director General (Law and Order) M Ratan, police took 638 persons into custody to prevent disturbances and to maintain normalcy and registered 41 cases under 151 CrPC (preventive arrests). The agitators resorted to road blockades at 162 places, 58 incidents of effigy burning, 94 dharnas and rallies at 64 places were reported. "Few sporadic incidents of unlawful assembly, pelting of stones, causing inconvenience and nuisance to the general public, closing of petrol bunks, schools, boycotting of courts in some areas of Telangana districts was also observed. The situation is under control, without any major incidents," Ratan said.

The bandh call was given on Thursday by T-JAC against the state government's refusal to allow Telangana leaders pay homage to M Yadi Reddy, who allegedly committed suicide in Delhi.
